hi i have just noticed that there is no one else on this forum with a A,G. with so much red feathers on its body like that of charlies, or is there?

when we purchased charlie the breeder told us that he has a lot more red on him than most A,Gs and that it will be possible that it will probably molt out on his first molt well he has had his first molt and he still has lots of red on him, is this rare?

i will try to attach an image to this post but if not you can see him (or her) in the photo album or on my page.

Charlie is lovely, how old is he now? It will be very interesting to see if he maintains his red feathers when he is a little older. I hope he does, he looks gorgeous.

  • 3 months later...

Hello there!

I am the lucky owner of 2 wild caught(relax, I rescued them from a bad situation!) african greys... they are approximately 25 years old and have the RED FACTOR gene...They have beautiful 3-4 layer rings around their necks... and some feathering on the wings and legs...

They have been with me for a few months now and are doing very well... the male, George is getting his head feathers back... they have never been handled so i think i will leave that aspect alone... however they are taking food from me now... they never did that before.

I made a post on the color mutations topic...

photos to come... B)
