Char
My vet warned me about the possibility of zinc in the glue of paper towel rolls we like to give our birds. I did a little search and there is some info on the internet. Whisper loves them but I stopped giving them to her. http://www.exoticpetvet.net/avian/zinc.html I read another article where Kimberly Clark the manufacturer says it is not recommended for pets. do some searching there is some info out there. I thought I would post this since I have seen posts where members mentioned using them. Better safe than sorry. To tell you the truth I kind of wondered about it even before my vet mentioned it. sugarbeth
I have a great link about this. It's kind of an urban legend about the zinc. http://www.theparrotuniversity.com/papertowels.php

she
I spoke to my vet about this a while ago.My tiel had heavy metal poisoning, thank god he recovered but I am very cautious what they now play with. My vet thought they were fine.As I say it was a while ago so I may just ask again to see if his views have changed.<br><br>Post edited by: she, at: 2009/04/23 12:
Char
Well, urban myths do abound. Thanks for that other link. I think I will still stay away from them just to be safe. After all, it is glue.

chezron
How about toilet paper rolls? We stuff newspaper and treats in them for minutes of entertainment.
Char
It seems the jury is still out about the glue on paper towel roll. Toilet paper rolls same thing. I don't use them just to be on the safe side. I would rather err on the side of caution. I mean it is GLUE. You can string together shower curtain rings and stick rolls of newspaper in them and hang from the cage. I have found other alternatives to the paper rolls. Take a look at this post for my favorite toy to put treats in. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/homemade-toys-&-playstands/151567-a-favorite-foraging-toy.html<br><br>Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/08/17 12:
Talon
I agree with Char, to be on the safe side, I don't give them to my birds either. B)
