Tycos_mom
Adaya is 12 almost 13 weeks old she eats her veggies and seeds and pellets she has been refuseing her hand feedings all of them it almost like she went from 3 feeding to no feeding in about 1 1/2 weeks during that week and a half she lost about 50 grams she also started flying allot and now she won't take any hand feedings at all and her weight has remained stable for about 3 days should I classify her weaned or should I continue to offer her formula? Lyric
Sounds to me as though Adaya is weaned- congratulations! Usually weaning coincides around the same time as fledging. They do lose weight prior to fledging. If she is refusing the handfeeding and eating well and holding her weight on her own, then you have done a brilliant job and she is weaned. Generally I've heard if the baby holds it's weight on it's own for a week then you can safely consider it weaned. You can still offer the handfeeding formula from time to time if you like, I've found that mine get quite excited about it and I think it's a nutritious meal if offered now and then.

Post edited by: Lyric, at: 2009/04/22 23:

Pat it sounds to me like Adaya is weaned and Jen has given you some sound advice as she has experience with this sort of thing, thanks Jen. Tycos_mom
Thankyou Jen and Judy Its just been 3 days so I will continue watching her weight. When I went to see if she wanted a night time feeding tonight I checked her crop and she defnatly had food in it and lots of it bit it wasn't Formula it was food her crop didn't feel mushy. So I put her on the scale just to see how much food was in there and it was about 15gr so I offered her a some formula and she eat about 20cc so I will keep doing this at night just in case she wants a little. Even my other birds like a little formula every now and then.
Tycos_mom
Well I weighed Adaya this morning and she is up 5 grams on an empty crop I would say my baby is weaned I'm going to still offer her Formula for the next couple days but it will probubly be a waste of time and Formula but I don't mind wasting time with my baby. It was so funny this morning I always get Adaya up first to have her formula and this morning she flew over to Tyco's cage and was sitting on the boing that hangs next to Tycos cage all of a sudden I hear go away night night the go away a couple more times I guess Tyco wanted to sleep and Adaya was keeping her awake:laugh:
