MrsB
Hey everyone, I am going to paint Mesa's bedroom. I haven't read anything about this, but does anyone know if they favor some colors over others, or just like bright colors? Anyone know if there would be anything to haveing cool tones vs. warm ones, bright vs. dull color? Opinions? Know? Thanks! (PS, she has not moved into it yes, so I do know NOT to paint it with her in it!) <br><br>Post edited by: MrsB, at: 2009/04/21 20:
Char
You don't want to put her into it until you can no longer smell paint in the house. I waited a week and gave it a good airing out. I know someone who killed their bird when they painted. Said they did not know any better.
judygram
I don't remember which thread it was in but it seems to me I heard about some kind of paint that does not have toxic fumes and is safe to use when you have birds in the house. Maybe one of the members will remember about it and chime in with the info.
Tycos_mom
My birds espcialy Tyco loves the colour baby pink if I buy her toys and they're pink she can't wait to get her beak and talons on them she gets very excited. Most of my birds do not like the color red and if I'm wearing a red sweater they won't go near it. hope that helps I also found the like the colours yellow and orange. Raiderbabe
Check Home Depot. They make a very low odor paint now I believe. I was looking into painting my living room also and saw their commercial on tv. I think it is a bit more pricey though. Also, Sherman Williams has low odor paint but it is alot more expensive. Hope this helps!
MrsB
Colors ladies! I have read that if it is baby or kid safe, it is bird safe. Thanks for all the tips. http://www.olympic.com/lowes/paint_products/going_green/index.htm Also, if the paint has no VOC's it is totally harmeless to birds and animals and better for people too. http://articles.directorym.net/Bird_Safe_Paint-a995754.html Thanks Pat, Mesa loves orange too...wow would that be a bright room! I haven't noticed that she objects to any particular colors at all. BaxtersMom
I have heard that each bird is attracted different colors and to find the color they prefer give them toys or wood blocks or something of color and see if there is one color that they are drawn to. Baxter really seems to like yellow. And I too have heard that Home Depot has the "less odor" paint. I was told it was safe for birds but I would never trust that completely. Take all precautions anyway. I once called a toll free phone number for some carpet shampoo to see if it was "bird safe" and the representative first didn't know what I was talking about but still swore it was 100% safe. I did a little more research and found out I could have made my babies very sick or even killed them so don't believe all they tell you. I've heard too that if it's safe for a baby, it will be safe for your parrot and that may be a good thing to keep in mind but there are always exceptions like candles, cleaning agents, teflon pans. Please let us know on the colors you decide and when it's finished you must put pictures in for us to see:)
MrsB
The link above is to an independant site that says that with VOC free pain, you can paint with your bird on your shoulder. Now, of course I wouldn't do that , but it sounds like the way to go. And it is 100% VOC free, so there is nothing better than that. I will still be cautious and make sure we are safe. I am thinking a dark, or burnt orange....or an orange of some variety. She definitely gravitates to orange, and it will match Verde's beak too! Lol...I will keep you posted. I am going to paint Sunday or Monday. : )
Keywe
It's the paint for pregnant families...VOC free. Don't do it RED... I wonder if they hate their tails??? I know Keywe hates RED
