chimaysmommy
Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the homemade toys section... I already have a digital kitchen scale, and would really like to start a weekly log of Chimay's weight. He weighed in at his first vet visit at 470g, and 488g at his follow up yesterday. Does anyone here know if there is a site out there where I can purchase a perch that I can simply set on top of the digital kitchen scale I already have? I've looked around but all I seem to find are whole scales with perches built in. Or an easy suggestion on fabricating my own (mind you I have no tools beyond a drill and some basic toolbox tools)?

Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/04/16 21:
Dave007
Make your own Make a small T out of 2 pieces of wood --get a 4 inch square --1/2 inch thick piece of wood--attach T to the wood. Put it on scale and see how much it weighs. Put bird on it and weigh bird--when finished, subtrack the weight of the stand from total figure. That's how much your bird will weigh. chimaysmommy
Parliament man huh? Ha ha....Thanks! I'll probably have to fabricate some sort of base as well. My kitchen scale has no spot that I know of to screw on the dowel like you have. Awesome!
Dave007
then just get a base and nail it to the bottom of the T use nails to attach everything togethe---don't need a dowel.

Post edited by: Dave007, at: 2009/04/16 21:

she
My two both just get on the ordinary kitchen scale. It is a digital one but like a flat circle. I find no reason for a perch, mind you my two are very used to it. I just say come on, lets see if you are a fat man and they know whats coming and are happy to go along with it.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/04/16 22:
chimaysmommy
Ha ha ha! That's a good idea...Chimay really likes having time on our coffee table, running around flat-footed for a little while so maybe he'll just step onto the scale without the need for a perch. Why didn't I think of that to begin with? Lol!
she
It would be easy to condition him to it while young. Use a phrase or comand and offer a treat for being good. I use a down comand and they go down on to the scale. He probabley will step on to it on his own as he is investigating it,when he does cue him and offer treat,

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/04/16 21:
judygram
I have a scale that came with a removable perch but I weigh Josey without it, she will stand on the scale itself, I taught her well.
