GorgASS Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 it's not finished yet...still need to add toys, but i just HAD to post a pic cuz it turned out way cooler than i thought it would! let me know what you think.
Eckobird Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Oh how cool! Your grey is going to love that. Whats at the bottom to hold the branch? I should try something like this. Thanks for sharing
GorgASS Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 it's an old tree pot i had laying around. there was a rose bush in it like 4 years ago and it's been laying around ever since, so i thought i'd use that. i poured a layer of plaster of paris, let it dry, did a layer of sand, then another layer of plaster. i don't think i needed 2 layers of plaster, i just wanted to make sure the thing didn't tip over! lol over-all this was easy to make...but let me tell you it is HEAVY lol. the pot all by itself was pretty heavy...my only suggestion if anyone makes something like this...put it somewhere you won't have to move it often!
Luvparrots Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Great looking playstand, GorgASS, good job!!!! I'm impressed with your creativity. My neighbor saved me a couple of branches when he pruned his trees so I may just try to make a playstand too. Thanks for the great idea!!!
Lyric Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 It looks really nice! What kind of tree did you use? I keep thinking I'm going to make a tree stand but time rolls on and I still haven't done it... Great job!

judygram Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Thats a fine looking playstand, I think you did a wonderful job with it, thanks for sharing a pic of it with us.
GorgASS Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 it's made out of white birch lyric...i scrubbed the whole thing with a wire brush just to make sure there was nothing bad on it...i'll post another pic when it's got some toys on it. the only bad thing about it...it doesn't really have anywhere to hang toys from that he'll still be able to reach so i might have to add a few more branches...
orphan1965 Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 I used a branch much like yours but instead of a pot of plaster I bought a christmas tree stand when they were on sale last year. My Yellow nape and conure just love being on it. I have it on my screened porch. I have water bowls attached with a few toys and swings as well. I also made each a play gym out of PVC. I found the simple plans in a book I bought on amazon.com. I googled pvc play gym to find it.

Luvparrots Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Orphan1965 great idea about the Christmas tree stand. Karma to you for making it easier for me to make a stand!!!!
GorgASS Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 my dad suggested using a x-mas tree stand. i didn't cuz it's not x-mas time and they're not available (lol) and i can't have a real tree in my apartment so i don't even own one, but it is a good idea. i'm sure it would of been lighter at the very least! lol (mine's a pain to move!! but at least i know the kids can't knock it over ha!)
orphan1965 Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 you can see a small portion of the play gyms I made for my fids on my info page and the pictures i added of my yellow nape and sun conure.
Janfromboone Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Great playstand! You'll have a ball decorating it. I'm constanly changing and adding things to Tobie's playstand - as much fun for me as him. I find it to be a great safe haven for Tobie and he doesn't have access to things that get him in trouble.
casper Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 It looks brilliant! I would love to make something like this for my three, you have given me some great ideas, thankyou:)
