Janfromboone
I came home the other day and my husband had put potpouri out in a container. The house smelled nice, but I had concerns about Tobie. I searched the forum and found a few comments, but nothing concrete about potpouri. I read that it's bad for them to chew it, but ok as a deodorant. What do you think? I don't think it's all natural ingredients. The odor is too strong.

Post edited by: Janfromboone, at: 2009/04/14 02:
judygram
Then I think I would err on the side of caution and take it out of the house, if it was all natural things like spices and such it would be ok. Maybe some of the other members will know more than I do and chime in with their opinions.
Janfromboone
Thank's Judy. I hate to hurt Frank's feelings, but I'll see what others think and for now I'll remove it.
lovethatgrey
I wouldn't use potpourri, or any type of scented anything at home now that I have my beautiful parrots i.e candles, deodorizer, air freshener, incense, febreeze etc. I really used to enjoy all of those type of things.. but now it's all for the health of my parrots. They have extremely sensitive respiratory systems.

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/04/14 04:

Char
I don't use anything like that either. It is not worth the risk. If the bird has a problem it could be gradual over time and you would not know what was going on. They are very good at hiding illness until it is too late. judygram
Yep, better to be safe than sorry, err on the side of caution, not worth the risk, when in doubt throw it out and so on and so forth, end.

Dave007
Potpourri is a mixture of dried, naturally and strongly fragrant plant material, used to provide a gentle natural scent in houses. It is usually placed in a decorative wooden bowl, or tied in small bags made from sheer fabric. Most people add many other strong fragrent items to it and some may not be good for birds so many people don't take the chance. The smell is stronger than scented candles.

Post edited by: Dave007, at: 2009/04/15 21:
Janfromboone
Thanks for all your input. I will politely throw the stuff away. Frank loves Tobie too and I'm sure he'll understand.
