Tari
I went to this fair with an idea. "I will not buy a bird, will not, will not, must not and will not." So guess what? Ya you got it I bought birds. {Feel-good-0002006E} I got a pair of unrelated parrotlets. A blue male and a split to blue female. So so darn cute. THIS IS IT NO MORE BIRDS. Well at least not till I can afford a breeder pair of TAG's. There are lots of baby greys. Several Cag's and Two TAGS but one of those is selling as a breeder. Someone even had a TAG for sale as a breeder for 250 bucks I asked her what was wrong with it she said she needed to place it cause it was an "extra". One of the club memebers said I should get it for Que. {Feel-good-000200A2} I told her to bite her tongue that Que was my baby not a breeder. {Feel-good-00020114} She begged my forgiveness. And promised never to suggest that again. (Understand this was all in fun.) And I got toys. Might get some perches tommorow and buy a few raffle tickets. I {Love-00020118} Bird fairs. Of course the hubby hates them. lol
judygram
Wow you suffer from MBS, I would too if I could. My bird club is haveing their bird fair next Saturday. I am slated to work all day but I will find time to look everything over and purchase some supplies, but no birds. We just have a one day thing and there are some seminars going on all thru the day about bird related subjects. I love the bird fair because they always have plenty of stuff and you can look at it before you buy.

judygram
Tari, did you bring home any more birds this weekend? You mentioned a tiel show, are you partial to tiels? The bird club I belong to is having our bird fair this Saturday and I am looking forward to it.
Tari
No I'm not a tiel fan. I like to look at them but dont care to own them. They are to beaky/mouthy for my taste. No I managed to leave with no other birds other then the parrotlet pair. Not only that but I bought 100 tickets and won nothing off the rafle table either. lol I won't do that again. Next year Ill just buy something to put on the table and not buy tickets. My friend entered a tiel I gave her four years ago and it wont first in her class and five best in show. Her little girls teil wont 3rd in show. And her grown daughthers bird won 4th in show and first in its class. They had a great time.
judygram
Sounds like you all had a great time and your friend won with a bird you once had, neat. I am not a tiel fan either, they are pretty to look at but I have no desire to bring one home.
Guest Monique
I love bird fairs too!!! Just a reminder though BE VERY CAREFUL AT BIRD FAIRS!!! Many breeders won't bring their birds there because there is no telling what the breeder next to you ... how healthy (or not) their birds are. Any bird from a bird fair should be quarantined and wash thoroughly after handling it and before handling your other bird. Remember birds are master at hiding any disease and thus you generally cannot use their appearance as an "all clear" to a healthy bird.
Tari
Yes Monique, I have been a member of the club that does this bird fair every year for 11 years now. The parrotlets are in QT for at least 45 days. But thanks for the reminder. Maybe someone that has never been to a birdfair well read this post. But your preaching to the choir here. {Feel-good-0002006E}<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/06/18 03:

gourdlady247
I don't belong to a bird club. How do i find one from my area. And how do I find out about bird fairs. We only have one grey and he a hand full for me at the moment. He's a good BITER. But working on that. But I would like to join a bird club and go to a bird fair
judygram
Check with your local avian vets and pet stores to see if one is available in your area. I belong to a local bird club and we have an annual bird fair in June. Do you subscribe to Bird Talk magazine, if so they have a listing of bird fairs all over the US and some bird rescues have seminars on different topics about parrots that are worthwhile to attend. Tycos_mom
We have one in cloverdale close to me every but its very small I went last year but I did't bother I at my limit when it comes to birds. I got enough to keep me going for the next 30 years of so. My birds have toys till the year 2020 I'm sure so I really have nothing to buy at a bird show If I did go I might be tempted so I stayed home this year.
