micah
I'm devastated but the situation at home has changed and though it breaks my heart to do it, I have to let my Grey go. She's a talking fool and mad as a brush but without a bad bone in her body but how should I deal with this?.... I can... a/ Give her away to somebody who knows what owning a parrot means. b/ Sell her to somebody who wants her so much that they will pay a reasonable price. There are down sides to both options. First of all, the money itself isn't important. It's just a form of proof that there is going to be a commitment to the bird. I could just as easily give her away but how do I prove to myself that the person involved isn't just acting on a whim? I only have about 2 weeks to sort this out so time is at a premium. Can anyone offer any other suggestions?
Moddy
Sorry you have to do this in the first place. I would sell her for a "rehoming" fee. Because your right it does show alot of commitment to the bird.. And well i've never seen anyone give an AG away for free, kittens maybe but even people charge rehoming fees for them, to be sure or to be greedy.. But most people have the best intentions. And especially with these birds that are like children they have mood swings need to be fed the right things.. Handled well, given the right amount of attention. Giving her away for free would spark alot of different kinds of people. People who would take care of her properly and give her all the love she needs.. And other people that like birds but don't neccessarily know so much about how to take care of them. Maybe if you find someone who really wants her write up a list about her and AG's in general about plucking how tramatic rehoming can be, favorite foods, good diet, where her cage should be and how much attention they should get. And if you really trust them and they think they can handle the responsibility.. Maybe consider it? But it's still a big risk. Or perhaps if you are going to give her away, do it to someone who already owns one and takes care of theirs well.
Sticks_n_stones
The original post is 2 1/2 years old. Wonder what happened to the bird.
Tricker66
Hi Micah I like both your ideas. Sins you worried about your birds future how about put it out to highest bidder but with the right to decide who gonna have her. I mean if you dont like the new owner for some reason you can shoose someone else. Then you can shoose to give it for free to the "highest bidder" and the person you think will provide for the best home. maybe to much hassle all this but but...
