Update on Ecko

Ecko is 9 weeks old today and I have had him for 10 days now. He went to the vet last Wednesday and the culture and sensitivity test came back today and the vet said he has a bacteria infection. She said its common in babies and not to worry and that the meds will get rid of it. I started him on the medicine tonight and he gets it twice a day for 10 days. I don't understand how he could of gotten it. I make sure I clean the syringes I feed him with really good. What else could have caused this? I was really worried but the vet reassured me.

Other than that he is doing great. He is so playful and loves to play with his toys. He climbs all over his cage and loves to flap his wings a lot. Today my boyfriend had him on the floor and he was flapping away and he said he was almost off the ground. When do babies usually learn how to fly?? He is on 2 feedings a day now and he has started to eat alot of his pellet mix and fruits and veggie mix. I started to sprout sunflower seeds for him because my vet recommended I do that and he absolutely loves them! I take the shell off for him and he eats the whole sprouted seed. It is so cute how much he likes it. Anyways, just thought I'd give an update on Ecko, and of course I included some pics and a video for you guys!

Oh my gosh he is so Cute he looks so much like my own little Shady grey. I really think I'm going to do this culture and sensetivity test. My vet did take a look at shady's Poop under the microscope and said everything looked good but thats all we did except for blood work now I'm worried thats 2 babies that this test caught before anything happened I think I'll make a vet appointment tomorrow an have that test done you just never know. I'd much rather be safe than sorry. how much was the test cost to get done just curious

Ecko is very pretty! As far as the bacterial infection goes, I think it is common in young birds. They can pick it up from anything in the environment-there are bacteria everywhere and young birds do not have a well developed immune system. This is why you should wash hands well before handling young birds and also keep the environment and toys, food dishes etc very clean. I think you are doing a splendid job with him and enjoy this time while he's little!:)
