CAGguy
Well first off hello to everyone!!!! I have been on this forum many times to read about what is to come.My CAG was born on May 4th and I should be getting it home either at the end of next mont or early august.I can't wait!!! I do not know the sex yet,but the breeder is going to have the dna results by next week.I have a Goffins Cockatoo so parrots are not new to me,but from what I have been reading a grey is a whole lot different from a cockatoo.I am looking for any advice I can get on owning a grey. The cage I am getting is 36"x28"x44" on the inside with a playtop. That seems like a good size right? Do I need to get a bird light? i have read the greys need it.Also what are the best toys for a young bird? It will be around 3 months old when I get it. Guest briansmum
congrats on your new baby! and welcome to the forum. the cage sounds good, i dont know about the bird light, i haven't got one.. i dont know what it is  and as for toys.. anything and everthing, particularly things of different textures to chew on. when theyre little they're not very good at "destructing" things so a few good investment toys will last a while. other than that anything from a toilet roll to a drinking straw makes for good grey entertainment. CeasarsDad
Hi there and like Beccy told you the cage is OK.. Regarding the "bird light" yes, get it.. Full spectrum lighting helps the bird in many ways.. All good.. Light coming in from a window does little as the window itself blocks out much of the beneficial rays needed... There are lots of threads on this forum that you can plow through.. Take your time.. I know you will find most of what you need right here.. judygram
Welcome CAGguy and I know you can hardly wait to bring your grey home, I remember when I was in your shoes. The wait is unbearable it seems, but all good things come to those who wait. Cage size sounds fine and the full spectrum lighting is beneficial to greys, I personally don't have one but am considering getting one. Keep us informed on the greys progress and we are here to help if needed.
Guest Monique
Hey CAGGuy!! I hear lots of people swear by full spectrum lighting. I've never used it, myself, nor had it recommended to me by my vet. Oh yes, a Grey is very different from a Goffin!!! I would compare a Goffin to Gomer Pyle and a Grey to ... while I don't know ... maybe Aunt Bea . Best advice is just read read read. If you don't have one already I'd get yourself a good Grey book to get real familiar with the species - Bobbi Brinker has one that is great. And post your questions here an we'll try to answer!! dblhelix
Agreed, read up as much as possible. Search this site, post questions and read read read The book "For the Love of Greys" by Bobbi Brinker is actually a compilation of short articles covering many topics. In my opinion its a must have for any grey owner...very good resource.

Post edited by: dblhelix, at: 2007/06/15 10:

CAGguy
Well if it is a female it will be "jewels" (my girl picked it)and if it is a male it will be "drizzle" (my brother picked it).I kind of like both so I went with it.
