Binncy
Hey everybody! I`m new here and I would really need your help. We have a baby CAG who is about 6 weeks old(we took him out of his nest with the other two babies). He is the oldest one of them and he has serious foot problem. On left foot the two rear toes are facing forward and on the right foot just one(the longest) rear toe is sometimes facing forward. And it looks like he is leaning on his left foot and he doesn`t know how to walk or turn around on the spot.He is also holding the left foot more forward and the right foot more backward.Tommorow we`re gonna take him to the avian vet which is two hours away and there is 70% chance that he`s gonna die on that trip. Does anyone have any idea what`s going on with him? He`s getting weaker day by day. Please help!

Post edited by: Binncy, at: 2009/04/03 13:

Binncy
At day he`s not in incubator with the other two babies because they don`t sleep much if he`s in incubator with them.He is sleeping on the couch covered with blanket to keep him warm and me and my husband are looking after him all day(from midnight to 10:30am he is sleeping in the incubator). He is eating normally and everything just the legs are bothering him.I just hope that he doesn`t have some serious problems. I`ve read about a similiar problem on this forum but that cag died after 24 hours. I`ll update you after my parents visit the vet;I have to stay at home and take care off the other two babies. Dave007
Your bird has a physical deformity which is called partial splaying. The birds show have never been removed from a nest that young. The birds should have stayed with the breeder until they were fully weaned.A bird that old doesn't belong in an incubator. . It should be in a brooder. An incubator won't help the bird's condition at all. Only your vet can make a diagnosis as to how serious the splaying is and a small brace may be required.

Post edited by: Dave007, at: 2009/04/03 18:
Binncy
The baby cags are from our nest.We have 14 parrots in the house beside those 3 baby cags. The baby cag is not too young. Some breeders take baby cags out of their nest when they are only 3 days old. This is not our first parrot on hand rearing but they are our first baby cags.We have friends who are experts on hand rearing baby birds and we`ve got a lot of advices from them.Tommorow we`re gonna take him to the vet who is an experts for parrots. We couldn`t possibly took them from nest when they would be old enough(3 months) because they would be wild.We waited 5 years for baby cags(we have a cag couple...male is from Africa, female from cag raising center in Italy).Beside those legs, the baby is in a good condition;he`s very active/playful and curious,he eats a lot,he started to preen himself and he is in a incubator only trough night. The incubator have the right temperature and moister and the other two baby cags don`t have the same problems.I know that he`s gonna get a small brace which he`s gonna have to wear it for couple of weeks.I have a lot of experience with birds because they are part of my life,I grew up with them.We just never had that kind of problem with a baby bird and I`m worried/I was worried. My baby is just acting so normal that I know that everything is gonna be fine.

Post edited by: Binncy, at: 2009/04/04 09:
