TONGUE BLEEDING

PEG

Recommended Posts

AMONGST OTHERS I HAVE TWO AFRICAN GREYS, KEPT IN AN OUTSIDE 8X6X4 AVIARY, I GOT THEM FOR A SILLY SILLY PRICE, THEY ARE NOT FAR SHORT OF BEING WILD, MY IDEA IS TO GET THEM SEXED ETC AND TRY TO BREED, THEY ARE VERY SHY AND DIVE FOR THE BOX SHOULD ANYONE APPEAR, YESTURDAY I DECIDED TO CLEAN THE BOX, THIS ENTAILS DRIVING THEM OUT OF THE BOX, I HAVE DONE THIS ONCE BEFORE, ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE, PARROTS EVERYWHERE, ARMS ON HEAD, CRASH BANG, THE ALARM CALLS OF TWO GREYS IS IMPRESSIVE,

THEY ARE BOTH GREAT FLYERS, BUT HERES THE THING , ONE HAS ONLY ONE LEG, THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD IT AMPUTATED AFTER A RAT ATTACK, IT COST HIM AN ARM AND A LEG , “SORRY”

DESPITE THIS SHE IS A WELL ADJUSTED PARROT, GETS AROUND WITH BEAK AND FOOT, A FLYING FIGURE OF EIGHT , NO PROBLEM, BOX CLEANED, JOB DONE.

NOW HERES THE CRUX OF THE STORY, WHILST DISCUSSING WITH MY WIFE HOW THEY WERE GETTING TAMER, I NOTICED THAT PEG WAS BLEEDING FROM THE MOUTH, IN THE MAYHEM SHE HAD DAMAGED HER BEAK OR TONGUE, I THINK SHE HAS BITTEN HER TONGUE, ALTHOUGH IT HAD BLED HEAVILY AFTER A WHILE IT STOPPED, WE HAD TO GO OUT FOR THREE HOURS ,ON OUR RETURN DISASTER, BLOOD EVERY WHERE, THE FOOD BOWL, THE WATER BOWL, THE PERCH, ON THE FLOOR OVER 50 BLOOD SPATS MOSTLY AT LEAST 13 MM ACROSS, THIS WAS ALARMING TO SAY THE LEAST, I HAVE NEVER LOST THAT MUCH BLOOD !! WHEN I GOT OVER MY EMMOTIONS, I SET TO,THE INTERNET IS A GREAT RESOURCE INCLUDING THIS SITE, I LIVE IN THE UK AND ONE OF THE BEST AVIAN VETS IS LOCAL,

STEPS SO FAR

GET THE FOOD OUT,THESE BIRDS HAVE GREAT COGNITION BUT ARE NO GOOD AT DOCTORING THEMSELVES, HENCE THE BLOOD IN THE FOOD BOWL, I DID NOT AT THE FIRST , BIG MISTAKE,

WATER FOR SURE, IN MY OPINION SHE COULD BE DEHYDRATING

ONE TEASPOON OF SUGAR TO THE PINT

SHE HAS DRANK

TODAY 18 HOURS LATER I HAVE FED A FRUIT AND VEG AND PELLET MASH

NOT TOO EARLY I HOPE

SHE IS UP AND ABOUT ,LOOKS OK

TIME WILL TELL

SOME MAY THINK IT WAS A VET JOB IMMEADIATLY,

I FELT THE TRAUMA INVOLVED IN CAPTURING HER,

COULD HAVE BEEN A STEP TOO FAR FOR HER

AND MAYBE FOR ME AS WELL

WILL LET YOU KNOW PROGRESS IN DUE COURSE

MAY BE OF INTEREST FOR SOME

AND TELL HOW I CAME BY THIS STRANGE PAIR,

VIA THE PURCHASE OF A GREY WHO HAD LIVED WITH A DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY,

TRAUMA INDEED FOR JACK THE GREY PARROT

Well for one thing, a parrot who has one leg can't be a breeder but if put into that type of situation, it's very possible that a female will still lay eggs. Of course, the eggs will definitely be infertile but whan a female is doing this type of thing, her internal system weakens. So, forget that idea. Right now, it's very important that you remove that box. It serves no purpose other than to allow the birds to stay frightened and you're supplying a hiding spot.

"""SOME MAY THINK IT WAS A VET JOB IMMEADIATLY,"""

Exactly true. There are no vets here and a vet is recommended for most illnesses especially when blood, cracked beaks, tongue problems are spotted.

I'm not being cruel here but you may want to use lower case typing because some people may feel that you're yelling. Upper case letters usually signify that. This mistake happens quite frequently with loads of people.

Post edited by: Dave007, at: 2009/03/30 17:34
