MBSolberg
Could someone please tell me if it is safe to run the self-clean cycle on my electric oven? I am worried about the fumes for my bird...The oven is about 10 years old, if that matters. Thank you ~ Mary
Raposa
Mary, I am worried about that for my own bird, and I won't run the self clean cycle unless I have the bird out of the house and the house open to air out. It just is not worth the risk to me. Hope that is helpful!
Sallas
I do not believe that self-cleaning ovens are safe for birds.
MBSolberg
I googled it and found the same response from others. Thanks for your thoughts on that. I will wait until summer on a nice day when I can be home for the time needed and supervise him in his cage outside. I can't imagine the fumes not being very dangerous, but I wanted to get some advice from experienced bird owners. Mary
cflanny
Some ovens do have nonstick components, in a self cleaning cycle the oven is heated beyond normal temps which depending on the oven definatly could release PTFE. I would personally not do it but I am no expert but it just seems that its not worth the risk . PTFE is not somthing to experiment with imo its instant and deadly. Storm_2007
yup your gonna have to resort to elbow grease to clean your oven!
lovethatgrey
I have a self cleaning oven and I definitely will not ever use this feature while I have my birds either.
MBSolberg
Thanks to everyone for their insights on this. I will wait for a nice summer day when Simon can be outside in his cage before I run the cleaning cycle. Actually, he is going to visit his first owner (she loves him dearly and we still keep in touch)for the month of July. I can do it sometime then.
