I have just re-homed a 7 year old CAG. She is very social and talks a lot. The people who gave her up had her wings clipped so that she has no flight at all. The avian vet that I got her from said that in time those feathers will be replaced. But I was at a bird pet shop where they groom birds. They told me that I should bring her in and they would pull out every other clipped feather and that way the new feathers would grow in quickly. That sounded awful to me. I would rather wait until she molts. What do any of you think? Have you ever heard of pulling out the clipped flight feathers?

Thanks,

Greymom

Susan is right, even though it takes a while for the flights to grow out that is the best way, sometimes it can damage the follicle when they pull them out, I wouldn't want to take the chance.

Thank you all for answering me. I definitely will not have her plucked. I will wait until her feathers grow back. This is my first time on the forum and I am so happy with how responsive you all are.

Oh that is the cruelest thing I've ever heard what kind of pet store is this That the would pluck out all those feathers. Even when a vet has to pull out feathers because theres some kind of problem and more than 3 feather and they put the bird under anistetic so it doesn't go through to much pain. I would not take my birds anywhere near that pet store.
