kljohnso
Well I brought him home Friday...and he has did very well adjusting to me. He did alot better than I thought. I didnt think I would even be able to handle him at all for awhile. But he will sit on the bed with us for hours and watch TV. and he will wonder around trying to get into eveything he can find. He really seems fairly happy. But as soon as I put him on top of his playstand on in his cage he will start plucking. I figured he would probably pluck bad when I first brought him home but I feel like im should be doing something to keep him from doing it. But I cant make him stay with me all day. He loves to sit on his play stand. He usually climbs up there his self. Is there anything you guys recommend I could get him to keep him occupied...Toys...ect? He really loves to destroy things...I know that. He has some toys in his cage now that came out of his cage at the store. But I never see him play with them. any advice will be much apprieciated. Thanks, Kelly and Simba
judygram
You need to keep him busy and occupied, if he won't play with his toys then provide him with things he can chew up and destroy and some things to forage with. We have a homemade toys and playstands room where you will find lots of ideas for foraging toys and other toys you can make out of common household items. Thats great that he is doing so well with you, keep up the good work.

BaxtersMom
My grey didn't play with toys much when I first brought him home but a few things he loved since day one was paper and cardboard. At first I had to tear a few pieces/strips up in front of him and he quickly caught on. Another thing he really loves is just plain cardboard boxes. He will chew those for hours and hours. Not real big boxes and you might have to cut a box down to only about 2 inches tall so it's not too big. Corrugated boxes are best but my Baxter loves all cardboard (better than most toys too) Good luck.
casper
I am so glad Simba has settled in well with you but sorry about the plucking starting again. Does he have lots of shredding toys? Another thing to do is add toys to his playstand if you can, mine will sit and play with their toys on there and it keeps them amused for a while. Chewable toys which they can hold are a great idea and will take his mind off the plucking maybe some puzzle acrylic toys which they have to figure out how to get a treat. I am sure people can help you out with some internet sites to get some great toys, this will give you some great ideas! Also please look in the homemade toy section, there are some fantastic ideas in there as well. Please keep us updated on Simba's progress, we would love to hear more about him. she
Try giving Simba an old phone book to chew up.This keeps my grey happy for days.I find it a great shredding toy and easy available. My vet gave me a bit of advise when I first got my grey he said "a busy beak is a happy beak" Meaning keep his beak busy with things to chew and distroy. I have found it works very well and I imagine a great help in regards to eliminating plucking. Good luck
kljohnso
I have been ginving him many things to tear up. I made him some toys out of cardboard, qtips, and leather. He LOVES them. He is still plucking tho. Maybe he just needs some time to settle in. He has 2 tail feather spouts. lol. I hope he doesnt pluck them out.
judygram
Yeah give him some more time to settle in but in any case do not make a big deal of his plucking, just ignore it for your reaction to it may only encourage him to continue. Thats great that you made him some toys, make some of them some type of foraging toy to make him have to work for some of his treats.
