Hi! Welcome aboard..

Firstly, the bird is still getting used to his surroundings, and you, so its not a major problem that he only talks when your out the room. spend a little more time around him, talking to him, and him used to you, and you will proberly find that he comes out his shell. With regards to wing clipping, there will be lots of differnt opinions on it, but i personally wouldnt clip Adanna's feathers, i feel it resricts them, and that if her feathers are clipped, she couldnt fly very far... As i said, there will be a lot of diff views on this, and i know its done widely for the birds safety.

Hi and welcome to the forum. You'll have to be patient with Coco. He will talk in your presence when he is absolutely comfortable with you. You've only had him for a very short time so it would be a very good idea to let him get settled in to his new environment and become familiar with his new family. It may take a few days... or it may take a few more weeks. It's really up to Coco.. So just continue being nice, gentle, interactive and patient for he will definitely:) come along.

Since you have only had Coco for a week that is not long enough for him to feel comfortable enough to talk around you and he may be one of those greys who won't talk around you, we call them "closet talkers"

Please give him some time to settle in to his new home and feel comfortable and he will begin to show his true personality.

I would advise you not to clip his wings, some people do because they think they won't lose a clipped bird but that is a myth. If you have a clipped bird outside and it gets spooked with a little wind that bird can and will fly and you may not be able to retrieve that bird, I wouldn't take the chance.

Some people also clip their birds wings to make them more dependent in the home to keep them from going to places they don't want them like to furniture and cabinets where they will chew on them. A flighted bird is usually a happier bird and many of us who previously clipped our birds are no longer doing that but it is a personal choice.

Hi Mrstroudy congratulations on giving Coco a forever home. How old is Coco and how did you find him? I love to hear the history of the older greys and how they acquired their new forever homes. I would give Coco a little more time to grow to trust you after all he has no idea who you are and if he can trust you to want him forever. I personally would leave him flighted as it gives them more confidence. As an example, how would you feel if you broke both your legs!!! It would surely slow you down a bit and crush your spirit for awhile. Of course, it is a personal choice, one you have to decide on your own. I hope to see some pictures of Coco soon and hear more about how the bonding goes. Welcome to the family!!
