MrCongo Posted March 5, 2009 Share Posted March 5, 2009 How do I install the seed catchers that the cage came with? It doesn't make any sense. There were no clear instructions, just an "exploded view" of the cage without even the name of the company! There are 2 holes on each end and a bunch of small nuts and screws that I guess go there since there isn't anything left on the cage to put on. BUT.... when I screw in the holes similar to the picture, I can only get 3 and it makes a triangle NOT a square. I don't get it. maybe I am doing it wrong? Can someone help me? pictures would help. I want to get this installed before I bring home Petrie, my Severe Macaw, so that he is not scared by it. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
judygram Posted March 5, 2009 Share Posted March 5, 2009 Can you post some pictures of what you are talking about so we can get an idea of how yours goes together Jacqueline? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Fisher Posted March 5, 2009 Share Posted March 5, 2009 {Nature-000200A9}i posted the solution on mr congo for you but i missed out this detail when it makes a triangle push the 2 side bits out a little until its nearly square then put the back piece up and see how far off you are keep repeating this process until its square let us know how it goes{Nature-00020095}

Post edited by: Fisher, at: 2009/03/04 20:35 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

MrCongo Posted March 5, 2009 Author Share Posted March 5, 2009 I'm not sure what you mean by pushing them out till it makes a square... the metal won't bend like that and the edges of the seed catchers won't budge when together since it hits the other piece (if you know what I mean) sorry to make it complicated sounding but without any instructions this is not easy Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Poppy Posted March 5, 2009 Share Posted March 5, 2009 my seed catchers are supposed to look like that but dont !! they lay a lot flatter !! it was areal struggle and cannot really explain ! i had a lot of flexing and bending to do to get them to fit ! MrCongo Posted March 5, 2009 Author Share Posted March 5, 2009 they make it look so easy in the pics... sigh. I already had to scrape the inside of the top lock to get it to lock because of the buildup of the powdercoat. I would like the seed catch because my apt is all carpet lol Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Fisher Posted March 5, 2009 Share Posted March 5, 2009 {Nature-0002009B}hi again ok look at the pic that you have posted on the right hand side of the cage door that part of the seed guard has a bow in it down the length also down the front edge where the screws go, its bowed if you look now that i pointed this out the bows stand out like 2 sore thumbs lol i know they dont seem to want to bend but trust me and try this screew 3 sides of it together nice and tight get the triangle shape then the last piece put 2 screws in 1 side and begein to stretch or push or bend until the top hole lines up for the 3rd screw place that 1 in the reshape the bottom until it screws in all these cages seem to be the same and need slight adjustment when building them like i said it took me hours to work out how to use it and i had success and im sure others have had the same trouble my way worked for me and should do for you it doesnt damage the paint or powder coat just dont be to rough {Nature-00020095} Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Luvparrots Posted March 5, 2009 Share Posted March 5, 2009 The parts that the screws go in are on the underside of the pieces. One long piece goes in front, smooth side up and one shorter piece on the side smooth side up. Line up the holes on the underside and put in the bolts and attach with the nuts. You should have an angle. Then attach the other long side on the end of the short piece in the same way. The fourth piece of course should then be attached to the remainder side. The four pieces should make a rectangle not a square. You should have two different sizes (2 each) with your seed catcher parts. I hope I helped. Good luck. MrCongo Posted March 5, 2009 Author Share Posted March 5, 2009 hmm.. so when/if I finally get it... where exactly on the cage will it sit? above the pull out tray just below the bars of the cage? the exploded view is not very good at showing where lol the cages on the internet are slightly different than mine but I think i get it.. maybe lol also, the long side of the catchers have a small ridge on one side. Does this stick out toward the cage or away? on on the top or bottom? the directions show it on the top back side but that way doesn't seem right to me. (I could be wrong:whistle: ) it's all cornfuzzling but at least i got a little better understanding of it, and I know now that it can be done. If anyone one else wants to jump in with their own explination, please do. It's better sometimes to get a different view on the same thing, esp something like this lol... oh and I will try again tonight and update you guys on it in the morning with my results (or lack of haha)

Post edited by: MrCongo, at: 2009/03/04 23:53 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Luvparrots Posted March 5, 2009 Share Posted March 5, 2009 On my cage the lip is on the underside away from the cage, the outside. The skirt is attached to the cage frame above my pull out grate and bottom tray. Bottom side of skirt: clip which holds catcher to cage frame: shot to show relationship to grate and skirt: look at skirt attached: Hope this helps if your cage is like mine anyway. But thank you SO much for all your help!!!! As soon as I got home and looked at the pieces I hit my forehead with my hand lol.. it was so simple!B) My mom's amazon cage has the ones the clip together. When I see her tomorrow I will try to put that one together as well. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
judygram Posted March 5, 2009 Share Posted March 5, 2009 Glad you finally figured it out Jacqueline, mine goes together differently, it does not have any screws, the four sides fit together at the ends. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

redkim Posted March 6, 2009 Share Posted March 6, 2009 OMG!!! HA HA HA HA HA!! I just had to laugh at myself!! Dangit Luvparrots why did you have to post pictures!!?? I had the same problem when I got my cage . . . one 8x11 piece of paper on how to put together the entire thing. Bumbled along okay until the seed guard and was going to leave it off until the BF said he liked the idea of it on. So I cursed and grubled and broke out the tools and made the darn thing fit. The only thing is I have the edges and screws on the INSIDE of the guard and not the outside like yours! :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: Hmmmm - I don't think I have the fortitude to go through that again, especially after I had to "fix" the panels so they would go together! Thanks for the laugh this morning!! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
