Guest briansmum
:( i'm going away on wednesday, till the following monday, it's a trip i've had planned since before i even knew i was getting brian. he's going to stay with my mum and i know he's in excellent hands and she'll love him just as much as i do. she's getting her own baby next month so she'll treat brian like her own . but i'm going to miss him soooo much and i'm sared he'll start plucking, or when i get back he won't like me as much and i'll have problems getting him to trust me again. has anyone had any experience with this? what is the best way to leave him, make a big deal out of telling him "mummy will be back soon" or just go quietly? can you reccomend aything either me or my mum can do to make the change of environment less stressful? CeasarsDad
I worried about this when I left Ceasar for 11 days.. Don't worry. When you return he will be just as you left him. Happy to see you and making all kinds of sounds.. . Spend as much time as you can with him before you leave..

CeasarsDad
Be carefull with him around your keyboard.. He will break the buttons off it.. Ask me how I know.. And in my case it was expensive laptops that were damaged...
Guest Monique
I agree with CD. I wouldn't do anything special when you leave or come home. He may be upset with you when you come home but he will get over it. As long as you aren't travelling like this every month any way .
Guest briansmum
lol awww poor CD.. brians already got a couple off, but i managed to get them back on, he knows he's not allowed to chew then but can't resist a cheey nibble if i'm not watching. thans monique for your advice, i would expect him to be a bit upset with me, i was scared he'd never be the same with me. and i don't hardly ever go anywhere.. this is the only trip i have planned this year at the moment, maybe a trip to the coast with friends later this year, but i think i would like to find a hotel, or holiday cottage that would let me take him with me.. i'm sure he'd love the beach! Caspersmum
Hi Beccy, I know its really hard leaving your parrot behind - I had to leave Casper for a few days not long after I'd got him. But he was absolutely fine, and I'm sure Brian will forgive you! Does anyone have any experience of being separated from their birds for a lot longer - I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to prepare Casper for 8 weeks of separation{Feel-bad-0002006A}. estream
I go away twice a year, 3 weeks each. I treat the situation in a very mellow manner ... I think the calmer I am, the calmer they are. When I'm nervous, they pick up on it and model that behavior themselves. When I'm laid back about things, so are they. Each time I return home I am greeted heartily with each and every word in their vocabulary, plus any extras they may have learned while I was away :-) That said, I do call every other day to check in on them :-) I drive my birdsitters batty :-)
