Torn on what to do?

Hi everyone I am new to the forums here and have a question? I really want an African Grey and have wanted one for almost 10 years. I am in MA and am having a hard time locating breeders here. So I have been visiting several online bird breeder website and of course have been asking a TON of questions lol.

I have noticed that The African Greys are very hard to find. I am pretty picky I didn't want a breeder who breeds more then 10 birds because I would feel that they wouldn't have time to socialize the babies due to having alot of other babies that they would have to attend to also. I didn't want to have a bird shipped very far because I am on the East Coast so I prefer a breeder on the East Coast or even Mid West.

I have my Bird Talk Magazine subscription coming soon, Birds Usa 2009, I bought 2 books on African Greys, Joined several forums etc... So I am ready.I have 3 websites book marked for cages and toys also. I have 2 breeders in mind BUT they don't have any birds yet available.

We have a cat and a dog(Shih Tzu) and 2 teens so our baby will have more then enough love and attention.

I have been seeing The Eclectus which looks like a beautiful bird also.

Sorry for being so long winded I am wondering do we wait on the breeders who I have in mind? Or chose another parrot? My Heart is saying wait but I don't know. I feel like I'm having another baby. This is tough!:(

Carol

Thanks Everyone

Hi there - welcome to the forum! Isn't it fun getting ready to adopt a grey - it really is like bringing home another baby, isn't it?

If I were you, I would p.m. Talon, our forum Admin, for any advice she might be able to offer on grey availability in MA - she lives in that state as well.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Hi Msvoluptous, welcome to the family. I can't help you to locate an East Coast breeder, live on the West Coast, but I wanted to say Hi. If you really want a grey, then I wouldn't settle for another bird, that's my opinion anyway. It sounds like you have done your research on what is required to own a grey. I would wait for baby greys to be available from the breeders you have already researched and like. Don't just settle "on a bird". I hung around here for two months before I finally brought my Ana Grey home. There are very knowledgeable people who frequent this forum and they have a world of information to share. There are oodles of threads with information necessary to understand what greys are like and if you can't find something ask, and if they can our experienced members will jump right in and help. You see, you are now part of the family and family stick together. Welcome!!!!

Post edited by: luvparrots, at: 2009/02/28 00:19
