mizzschaefer Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I have a 5 yr old male congo african grey "Rex" and last night we took him into a room in our house that he had never been...mind you he has been with us all of 3 days....anyways, he would walk around the room inspecting walls, curtains etc..... and he stand himself up real tall and then throw is head back or to the side...it was really wierd.....i'm wondering if this is normal grey behavior or is it just in the males...or is he retarded lol.
Dave007 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 That's the way many greys react when thery're in new places with new things around them. It has nothing to do with sex. All things are new to him since he's only there 3 days. That's more likely to happen if the bird in general is very high energy or nervous.
djzenjen Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Is it anything like this? http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=45674409 Mischief will do that to windows and cabinet doors. Sometimes I knock back with my fist and we take turns. Then, from the other room I hear my Amazon shouting "COME IN!"
mizzschaefer Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 No lol..that was cute tho =) I have it on video..i will upload it in a little bit =)

she Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I have seen my grey do the same it is normal. Mischief looks like part wood pecker in that video
judygram Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I can't recall Josey ever doing that but thats not to say she hasn't but it was cute to watch your grey do that and the other video of Mischief pecking at the window is funny to watch too, thanks to both of you for sharing that.
Char Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 That does look so funny. I think he is reacting to his shadow on the wall.
danmcq Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 He's watching and reacting to his shadow appearing on the wall as he goes back and forth....LOL. Thats a funny and new experience to him. Next, he'll be "Shadow Boxing". Thanks for sharing that video!! :-)
Luvparrots Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Rex is dancing with his shadow; how very, very cute. I love it. And Mischief what a little jackhammer!!!! So much fun to watch. Thanks for sharing!!
djzenjen Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 It almost looks like Rex is trying to look up at the ceiling, but can't figure out if he wants to dance or not at the same time. Too cute, but it's normal for sure. My father's Grey does that type of head swinging thing, too!
