aglover09
hello everyone, I am new to all this, i bought a 10 year old congo grey last weekend. his names boo bird and hes so cool! he says boo bird, good morning, hello, and other mumbling that im not too sure of. The man i bought him from had him 1yr. and before him a older lady had him for 9 years. she learned that she had termenal cancer and had to rehome her baby. sad to say she died 6 months later and his new owner did not have enough time for boo bird. he was kept in a hall way with about 10 other kinds of birds that he breeds so he has not had much human contact for the last yr. hes been pretty good, coming around he steps up to my boyfriend better then to me. I think he sences that im a little affraid of the beak lol. today he bit me not too bad but it did break the skin a bit. i was feeding him a corn flake. guess it was too small cause i been feeding him things all week and hes never bit me. i know its only been a week and i have to give him more time. :cheer:
Luvparrots
Hi aglover, congratulations to you for re-homing an older grey. A cornflake is a little small to be handfeeding, so I wouldn't blame Boo Bird for the bite. Boo Bird has been through a lot but I know with your love and patience you will be greatly rewarded with a loving, warm and marvelous companion. Welcome to the family. she
Hi and welcome.Boo bird will need more time to settle, especially as he has not been handled much for a while.I think he is doing really well.Dont push him but let him go at his own pace.If he is taking treats from you that is a very good start. Also he will step up,thats great. You are doing well.In a few months he will be a different bird. We all get nipped now and then and it is usually our own fault, we have not heeded the warnings greys give us before hand,or we have been playing with them and they have got over excited, ect.I am sure if you pay atention to his body language and as you get to know each other better things will improve. judygram
Hello Aglover09 and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Boo bird. Yes you need to give him plenty of time for he has been thru a lot lately and it takes time to gain the trust of an older grey. Don't force anything on him, let him set the pace but with much love and attention he will come around. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so please read thru them and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Boo bird you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

Scarlett
Welcome Aglover09. I have also just gotten an older grey. Scarlett is 7 and has had 2 previous owners. She is a wonderful bird but has her "nippy" moments. I'm sure Boo Bird (luv that name by the way) will also come around. I've learned that patience is the most important thing. Hope to see some pics!
