djzenjen
It all started in my childhood when birds were no stranger to my household. I grew up, moved out, got on my feet, and rescued a Cockatoo. (Which I quickly adopted out since I was unprepared to care for it at the time.) Then, it started when I adopted my dove, Big Bird. The bird fetish came back. I remembered how much I really enjoyed and loved birds in my life! So, I started reading up on different breeds. First, Koa came into my life. Then, I decided I wanted an African Grey, but my "other" was like no way. No more animals! I had to beg and plead, but finally I adopted Mischief. I thought I would be content, but then I wanted an Amazon... it was harder this time to convince my hubby that I needed another parrot. (lol) Then I got Perdy, which is an awesome addition to the flock. I thought I was content, but now I want another parrot... will this ever stop?! I feel like I would have to start smuggling them into the house and what's worse is that I think I'm willing to take that chance! LOL Anyone else have this problem? :woohoo:
judygram
Its called MBS, Multiple Bird Syndrome, and a lot of us suffer from it, not me for I know my limit but I would like to have another bird or two but I haven't given in. You really need to assess your situation and see if you really can handle another bird and I am not talking about the financial aspect of it but the time and attention it would require, do you really have enough to go around, only you can make that decision. djzenjen
Oh, I probably won't give in, but the feeling is there. I love working with them and showering them with toys and attention. I have every bird that I've ever wanted to own me. It just so happens that birds who need homes fall into my lap and they are just so cute... Everyone who knows me, knows I love birds, so they come my way. I either end up keeping them or finding them a home. My mother adopted an Amazon I was housing once, and I found a Cockatoo in a cage with no food inside a closed workshop. I contacted the owner ASAP and took it home to help find it a great home. Birds just seem to come to me sometimes! I need to keep going to Parrots in the Park to feed this addiction, but my limit would be just one more. judygram
I know people like that, birds do just seem to be drawn to them, of course other people find out about you and that is why they appear out of nowhere but we are very grateful for people like you, what would we do without you. Wish I had a Parrots in the Park near me so I could feed my addiction.

BaxtersMom
I just read your post today. Gosh, what a familar story:blink: I started with my grey, then I took in a lost conure, but I wanted an eclectus. My hubby started sighing a lot about then. I did get a male eclectus shortly afterward. My husband wanted a double yellow head amazon and after the eclectus he hurried up and got one before I brought another bird into the house. So now we have 4 and got them all in about a 6 month period and I love every one of them. I really want a macaw really really bad :pinch: but at this point I don't think I have time for one more.. Correction, I know I don't have time for one more but the "want" is still there. I don't think the MBS will ever totally go away for me:whistle: I guess you have to know your limits. I would love to have atleast one of ever speciesB) A few weeks ago a lady wanted me to take in her cockatoo (for free), cage & all. She didn't have time for it anymore and said it screamed all the time. I was so tempted and I really felt the too needed another home but I didn't take it:unsure: I guess that was a big accomplishment for me but I think about the too all the time and probably always will.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/03/02 22:
TinyTimneh
Ah the familiar pangings from MBS... Parrots, unfortunately once you're a bird person (which of course is like no other animal person) do become like potato chips, albeit very demanding, intelligent and crafty potato chips. I'd always wanted a parrot, lo and behold my dad rescued a grey for the family, who quickly became my bird. After that, I thought well he must be lonely so I'll get another to keep him company... so my christmas gift was a just-weaned cockatiel. About six monts ago, I got that itch again. I quite literally walked into the local pet store (in my defence I needed bird food, plus I did do some research into species beforehand) saw this poor little linnie all by his lonesome who was for all purposes wild and not the slightest bit tame... it literally took about fifteen minutes for me to put down the deposit and I was back to pick him up in about a week. Do I regret having multiple birds?... on occaision yes but everyone has days where it just seems the world is trying to make you crazy. Do I foresee another bird in my future... yes but not for a while yet.
she
I had to be very hard on myself when my vet phoned a few months ago and asked me to take a Grey who had been left at the surgery,No was the hardest word and it stuck in my throat but I just had to be realistic.I dont have the time ot space for another, not to mention the finances. Tycos_mom
Boy Do I know what mbs is like I too have birds falling into my lap constantly. At least once a month someone calls me with yet another bird that needs to be rescued. I don't take them anymore. I'm at my limit I can't say that I will never say yes there is 1 bird that if someone out there needed a home for one I would take it and thats an Electus but other than that I am at my limit. It takes all my time to give the birds I have the attention they desire. I don't have a life of my own anymore my life belongs to my birds I give it to them willingly and wouldn't change a thing but I can't divide myself up much more so I'm at my limit for now.
