Tequila EATING ALONE???

Karla

Recommended Posts

:cheer: Hey guys

juat wanna ask a quick something...

I got some advice from a family member that I should start putting parrot feed in Tequila's cage. I did this but still handfed him. Today I noticed him eating some of the feed! He is now about six weeks.

What am i to do and is this a good or bad thing?

Thanx

Hi Karla! This is a good thing! Keep parrot feed out at all times for Tequila. The best is to give Tequila a good pellet blend such as Harrisons, or Zupreem. Also, give fresh foods (fruits and veggies, pastas, some of what you eat) once or twice a day. Avoid avacados and chocolate they are poisonous to them! Your bird will eventually wean itself off of baby feedings and onto the "grown up" foods. Introducing many foods now will lead to healthy eating habits later on and willingness to try new things. Right now, I would only give seed as a treat, if at all. If you put both seed and pellets in most birds are going to choose the seed but that is not as nutritionally complete diet for them. Then it can be very hard to wean them onto pellets.

Eating some pellets at 6 weeks is good, and try offering some fresh or frozen veggies, maybe cooked and warm for him to try. This is how breeders wean them off of hand feedings.

xxbeccyxx you try the same thing and keep offering them and finally one day maybe he will start eating them too.

they're always avaliable to him and he does nibble at them... particularly if he finds one on the floor he threw there earlier. but he doesn't eat anywhere near enough of them for them to be his main diet

Hey and thanx for the replies!!

Well I'm from South Africa and i dont think we have those here! The feed he is eating by himself is Brennco and its a mixture of Maize, green peas, soya oil cake, flaked barley and flaked oats.

So should I completly stop with the Formula?

You guys are really great and i appreciate your advice!

He is on Avi-Plus Formula, the green bag and the blue one let me go check the names. Blue bag - Handrearing - Fine, Green Bag - Parrot - Coarse. I mix the two but now I put in more coarse so he could get use to solids. But he is eating Pellets and seed mix and then some sprout cook up mix.

Kay do you know anything about Brennco? My aunt uses it and it seems like tequila likes it.... how old is your Grey? Wait.... 14 feb so that makes him 3 months? I also use the avi plus... the blue pack (handrearing-parrot).

Hey Splint n Karla. Didn't realise you're both in South Africa. I'm coming out your way in 7 weeks, and i can't wait. I'm going to be in Cape Town for 5 nights, Durban for a night, and rural KZN for 6 weeks - any suggestions for what i shouldn't miss while I'm in your neck of the woods?
