icegudi
Hey you guys. My cockatiel is 17 years old. Lately I have been seeing some changes in her, she has a cloud on her left eye and it seems like she has lost her sight on that eye. She has started to stay still on one spot, sitting on the side with her left eye to the wall and watching her surroundings with her right eye. Her partner is much younger than her, only eight years old, they really love each other. He preens her all the time and she used to do it to him too but has stopped. I am afraid that she is in pain or something. It would be good to hear from someone who has had an old tiel or from someone who has had a bird that got a cloud on its eye. BaxtersMom
I think it would be best if your cockatiel was seen by an avian vet at this time. That way you will know more about what your bird is going through and if theres anything you can do to help her recover. It may be something serious or perhaps something that a little medicine can fix but either way she should be seen by a vet as soon as possible. It may be something that she can recover from but you will never know unless she goes in for a check up. I really feel for you because I can tell you are really worried about her. Good luck and keep us posted.
judygram
By all means take your tiel to see an avian vet especially if you suspect she may be in pain but that eye needs attending to and that probably accounts for her sitting in one spot for lengths of time. Let us know what you find out Gudrun.
BMustee
sounds like she has a cateract in her eye. I've seen it in older finches before. I would take her to see a good avian vet to make sure she doesn't have any infections that a good medication could clear up.
Tycos_mom
Seventeen Is fairly old for a cockateil but I had one years ago that lived til it was 25 years old. Mabie she just has an eye infection or mabie she poked it and it scratched. I really think that she should see a vet just to make sure she is ok. Luvparrots
I hope your cockatiel is okay, please let us know what your avian vet says. What is your tiel's name and that of her partner?
icegudi
Hey guys. Her name is Disa and her boyfriend is Olli. Olli is my brothers bird and nine years ago I saved Disa, she was living with a family that didnt care for her much so I asked to babysit her for a while, she fell immediately in love with Olli and she is still in the family. Now I dont live with them anymore but they will always be my family. The vet was afraid she might have eye infection so she gave us medication for that and insisted that they should change their diet to Harrisons pellets. Does anyone have experience with that diet here? I am considering trying to persuade my brother to change it. She wasnt really bothered about the age and said she was in a good condition other than the eye. So I am happy
