chimaysmommy
My boyf and I are both smokers (well hopefully not me here pretty soon...the patch is on my purchase agenda for this payday). We've already established a "no more smoking in the house" rule to allow our apartment time to air out before our CAG arrives over a month from now. But I read in a Grey book that the bird can absorb nicotine from our skin and/or hair if we've recently had a cigarette. Has anyone heard of the same? Makes me wonder if it would be beneficial to have the furniture cleaned as well...
Dave007
Just wash your hands with some soap and water before you handle him. You'd do that anyway for other things you handle, right. Some people say that the nicotine under the skin is bad. Other people say there's no problem. I guess we can only speak for ourselves. I've been a smoker for years and never had any problems so listen to the opinions and make up your own mind. Furniture cleaned? Again, it's up to you. I don't allow my birds on my furniture but it has nothing to do with any smoking residue. I simply don't want them on the furniture cause they shit on it. matt314159
I say whenever you're in a position where you can rule out a possible problem, go ahead. I mean it won't hurt to be on the safe side, right? Maybe convince your s.o. to stop smoking as well, it will be good for you humans too!
judygram
I second that Matt, whatever reason it takes to get someone off the cancer sticks. I won't allow anyone to smoke in my house, not that I have that many people come to the house that do but they have to go outside and I don't give a rat's patootie how cold it is, NO SMOKING IN MY HOUSE. BaxtersMom
Dave, I like your reasoning of why your birds are not allowed on your furniture. That's a good one.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/02/05 23:
chimaysmommy
Thanks everyone! Though I completely agree that we BOTH need to quit, regardless of what happens there is ZERO smoking that will be happening in our house from here on out. The furniture question actually was inspired a bit by these claims of "third hand smoke" I've seen on the news. Where the toxins from the smoke can be passed on to others from your hair, clothes, etc. even when you're not smoking. Made me start thinking about how much exposure our furniture has gotten as a result. I'm not a fan of shit stains either. Lol!
