Hi all.

I wonder if anyone know if coffe is bad for a grey? The reason I ask is coz my TAG Kiwi is totally nuts for coffe! As you all know greys mostly put their beak down in the water/juice etc. then lift her head and drink what they got. But when Kiwi gets some coffe I LITTERARLY have to lift her away, of the cup coz she dips her beak, keeps it down and starts to sip away!!! She use to Snarl at me to coz she is determind to have more! She ones landed on my left hand while I read a mail. I dint notise she started to drink so she got "a little" to much I guess and by god!!!! She was so wild that night! LOL Well enough. Question: Is coffe bad for greys?

I haven't heard that coffee is bad for greys, but I have heard caffeine is not good for them. I hope we hear from some others on this one :).

Hmmm caffeine is bad for almost all other animals, so I think that's why coffee is not really good for greys as well, unless it is decaffeinated :)

Coffee is bad for parrots. The same chemical in the coffee is what is repsonsible for chocolate being bad for them too. So, no coffee or chocolate.

Although, my CAG loves to have a sip of my cup of tea (with milk and sugar) and I think he does this, not because it is a particularly wonderful experience for him but because he sees me enjoying it and wants to be part of my flock. I suspect your TAG enjoys his cuppa because you enjoy yours.

It might be drinking out of the cup that is most attractive to him.

In any event, a sip of coffee now and then won't harm him.

I agree, a sip from time to time not gonna harm them. Mine goes for coffee too and I generally dont let her have any. I divert her and get her some juice etc. Caffeine increases the heart rate and constrics blood vessels. Birds already have a higher heart rate than we due to their advanced and efficient circulatory system designed for the tremendous stress of flight. Since they are so small (compared to us) a little caffeine represents a much higher dosage than for us. If they get too much they can have heart failure. I'm not sure how much would be too much....like I said, mine certainly has managed to steal a sip now and then and I dont stress about it, but be careful to ensure they dont down a whole cup! :P
