chimaysmommy
I've been making a running list of nonstick coated kitchen items that I'll be replacing by the time our CAG arrives, and wanted to get some feedback on silicone cookware. Was considering silicone muffin tins and baking mats...on bed bath & beyond's site they call their muffin tins nonstick, but I don't know if that is b/c they're coated or if it's just the nature of the silicone. Anyone out there using these sort of items as an alternative to nonstick? As far as larger vessels go I've got two cast iron skillets and a dutch oven that I live by. Lol! Dave007
The major item that causes problems is from teflon and I don't know if silicone has teflon in it. Many someone knows. If I remember correctly, silicone is sometimes put on cast iron pots. Check to see if the silicone has teflon in it. I have cast iron pots and pans and I swear by them. I also have stainless steel pots and pans and swear by them too.
Char
I sometimes miss my non-stick stuff. All mine is stainless steel and cast iron now. I would not risk any of the non-stick coatings.
poochbabe
Don't take a chance with ANYTHING non-stick. I just lost my beloved African Grey and my cockatiels this past Saturday night because of an oven liner that must have become compromised over time and sent out toxic fumes and killed them in 20 minutes. Trust me on this, don't trust anything that is non-stick. I am beyond grief-stricken and just a bit guilt ridden...I should have known better! I had gotten rid of all my teflon products but this liner never occurred to me. I had it in the over for over a year without incident and in a few minutes I lost my best friend and my 15 year old tiel.
