Parrot dirt

Hello to you all!

I am looking for help from you!

I wanted to ask about parrot making dirt(poo). Is there a way to train it so that he knows when he is on playstand or on my hand that he shouldn't do that? Or maybe a way to train him to poo when on a particular place?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and advice over this!:)

Hello- Although it takes some time it is actually quite easy to train them to go when you tell them to.

As soon as you take the bird out of it's cage, take it to the place where you want it to go potty. Tell it whatever command you decide to use for this, for example, "go potty". Now, wait. Wait until it goes and then praise it highly with excitement (you can even offer a treat if you like). You will have to take it back to this place very frequently and give the command, wait until it goes and praise again. Do this consistantly and they will catch on quickly. They love praise, love excitement and love to make you happy. They will still have occasional accidents and do not punish for this, just praise when they do it right. Good luck!

I use the command "poopie". Lilo now only poopie at certain spots. He will also announce loudly to us "poopie!!" when he is somewhere he is not suppose to poop, so I can quickly get him to step up and get him to a place where he can poop. Of course accident still happens but its so much better after hes been taught the command.

Gee, thanks, but I guess I should still progress a little bit with Paco as he is not still get used to the step up command and haven't started really training him. Any suggestion how should I proceed after Paco becomes familiar with the step up command? And by the way Lyric as you talk about praise what exactly should I do besides smiling and saying: "Well done" or "Bravo"?
