Cage Partners with Greys

Recommended Posts

I am looking into getting a Green Fronted Amazon parrot. Another rescue.

After a few weeks of him being in our home, I would like to consider placing him in our Grey's cage. Since it is so large!

Has anyone, or does anyone, have other birds with their AG's? I have a cockatiel, which will NOT be housed with her, since she could eat her in one bite!

Since Belle has been on her own for a year, I know this might cause some "problems", but she will get over the basics ~ I'm looking for advice?

I do have another cage for the Amazon should things not work out, but I HATE cleaning 2 cages - why make it 3? :)

I would not even consider putting another bird not even another grey into the cage with Belle, greys as a rule do not get along with other birds not even their own kind unless they are clutch mates.

Greys need their own cage to call their own, their space that they feel safe in and even if the new bird and Belle would get along they still need separate cages for you never know when the time will come that one of them decides to take a bite out of the other, spats can and do occur.

I know you want to cut out having to get yet another cage and heaven forbid another one to have to clean but this is the only way.

I don't think you ever introduced yourself in the welcome room, why don't you do that and tell us some more about you and Belle, maybe some pictures too.

Yes I agree!

Even though I have three greys, I wouldnt put them in the same cage together. They sometimes choose to hang out together in one of the cages but I think living together would be a big mistake for mine.

They all like their own territory, toys etc. Just my opinion.

Shannon - Karma to you for taking the feedback so well even though it was probably not what you wanted to hear!

And I'm really glad you asked the question because some people have had disastrous results attempting this. Particularly with two species with such strong personalities. Few Greys would share their cages harmoniously and I imagine the same applies to Amazons.

As with everything, there are probably exceptions out there. They are exactly that though...exceptions.

Can't wait to see pics...
