Nikki Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Was wondering what is happening here... My timneh, now 6 months old is really enjoying the pruning she gets from my green cheek conure, Korkie. I hold them both together on my lap & supervise this very carefully. It was a way for me to enjoy them both at the same time without the other getting jealous. However I'm noticing that Nikki my grey is not allowing me to scratch her head as often & is always begging to be pruned instead. She is still very sweet to me & wants my attention, wants to be held & loves to sit on my shoulder. We are together most of the day in the same rooms unless I go out so she gets plenty of my attention which she loves. I don't allow the 2 birds to be together unless I am holding them both. Also my little conure (2 yrs old) will not allow herself to be groomed by the grey, it is strictly a one way deal. I guess it's a dominance thing. Korkie allows only lovin' from me or my husband. I am happy that the 2 birds like each other enough to have this relationship so I'd hate to end it. Any thoughts?
danmcq Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Your Corkie, I would suspect, enjoys the delicate, precise effective preening expertise of a fellow avian. It feels much better than a scratch and is effective in actual preening, rather than just messing up there feathers as we scratch them. At least that's my thought on this question. :-)
sandra902 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 i saw a wee brush for birdies at the pet store and was tempted to buy it. wonder if that would be a closer approximation than a scritchity-scritch.
judygram Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I would continue with the preening sessions if they enjoy it as I see no harm in it, of course supervised by you but then you are doing just that, wished my grey and conure had that kind of a relationship.
spookyhurst Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 That's so sweet ! Do you have a video camera, because I would love to see some video of this!
Nikki Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 I'll have to work on that. I took some pictures of them the other day, one I posted on my site. I have not uploaded any videos yet. I'd need hubby to capture that as my hands are full!

Janfromboone Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 How sweet!! That's great that they get along.
Luvparrots Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Korkie sure likes Nikki. This is a very sweet picture. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Nikki Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Believe it or not Korkie does this because Nikki my grey BEGS for attention, she will not take no for an answer!
LisaM Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 That is soooo adorable! I've got to think that every bird would love this if they'd only give it a chance! (That would be a FAT chance in my house!)
