Hello, it looks like my grey broke or twisted a new flight feather and it really hurts when she moves her wing or if I try to touch it!

Should I try to cut most of the feather off?

It seems to be damaged close to the root because I cannot see anything but a twisted feather.

No vets within 6 hrs so I'm hoping I can help or someone has had a similar experience.

If it's bleeding, you'll likely need to pull it, especially if it hasn't stopped on it's own. If it's just a mature feather which has broken, I'd leave it be. Your grey will eventually take care of it.

I don't have a great 'pulling a blood feather' tutorial on hand, but managed to find this with a quick search on Google. Maybe someone here will know of one with better illustrations.

Kaedyn is spot on.

If it is not bleeding, your Grey will deal with it just fine. I would suspect it is more bothersome, than painful. They cannot stand an unruly feather.

Thanks Jim for posting that video to help with removal of a blood feather, I will add it to my favorites in case I ever need it and you never know when you are going to need it, karma coming your way Jim.;) B)

Thanks to all, Teka took care of the feather herself! I don't think it was a blood feather but I did see some dried blood where the feather broke.

It's amazing how they know what to do.

Glad its over, I feel so bad when things like this happen.
