Hi everyone,

Alfie's claws are really sharp,:pinch: the various perches he has are not filing them down enough. Can I file the sharp tip or is this something that requires the vet. When I had Alfie chipped I recall the vet saying we could do it but not to file to much.

Hiya Steve,

Is that you dancing in the picture:laugh:

What perches have you got for Alfie? I have included a link for one I use for my three which seems to do the job.

You can file the nails yourself, just dont go to far down or they will start to bleed. I have only had to take one for their nails doing, Keeko the middle grey and he was fine. The perches seem to be doing the job for me now.

Lots of members do nails themselves and Im sure will give you great advice on how to do this Steve.

Hope you and your family are well,

Caroline:)

I have had George 2 months now and my hands and arms looked a mess ! I took him to the vets and had his claws clipped and hopefully I will not have to do it again because I now have all the relevant perches in place to keep them in shape .The perches I have are the ones casper recommended .Thanks Caroline :)

Hi,

I use to file my greys nails but now I just go to the vet every 6 weeks to get them filed and it only costs me £6!!!

I don't file Josey's nails as she keeps hers in good shape with the rough perches but still they can easily scratch the skin so of course I bear the marks mainly on my shoulders but I have accepted it as part of life with a grey.;)

Anyone else have any good perches for keeping their birds nails trimmed? I need to get a couple more as the ones I have do not seem to be working very well.
