Nikki Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I've just learned about blushing in grey's. I've been tryng to find out more on this topic but don't seem to see much info on it. I have actually notice this in my timneh from time to time but didn't understand what I was seeing. I'd just think oh... I never noticed she had so many pink tinged feathers around her eyes...& then I'd forget about it. When I read about blushing I realized what was going on. I think that is so adorable!
judygram Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Yes it is something that greys do and you can easily see it around the eyes since their feathers are white and you can actually see the skin. Not exactly sure why they do it but they do and it is adorable isn't it but normal.
LindaMary Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I agree - I love it when Maxi blushes! It turns out that our second parrot, a severe macaw (also with a white face) also has the ability to blush. It's the cutest thing: warm feet and blushing...
Tycos_mom Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I notice this once in awhile with Tyco I never paid to much attention but I haven't noticed it with Gizmo I'll have to keep my an eye out for it since Linda's Severe Macaw blushes mabie mine does too.
BaxtersMom Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I've never noticed it all and didn't even know about it untill this post came up. I didn't know they could blush. Perhaps I need to pay more attention to Baxter and see if he does it too. It gets pink? It's noticable? Pretty neat. I didn't know about this. Thats why I like it here, you are always learning new things:) Now I want to see a blushing grey:blush:
Nikki Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 I didn't know about it till I read the book Alex & Me: How a Scientist and a Parrot Uncovered a Hidden World of Animal Intelligence by Irene M. Pepperberg. It was enjoyable to read but made me feel like I am owning a little Einstein! A bit intimidating what these birds are capable of.
Gryphon Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Gryph does this but only during cuddle sessions. I've seen Macaws do it as well when they are excited or revved up, but it doesn't seem that way for Gryph. He's always relaxed when he blushes. It makes my heart melt.
