Twosteph
So, I am receiving my baby congo in 4 weeks, at the age of 6 weeks. (Have hand-feeding experiance, no worries) The breeder will not sell me a sick bird (of course, nor would I buy one). I have already began to attach myself to this baby because I have waited SOOO long to finally get one. Well, the baby has a big bump on its head, right next to his eye. He is going to the vet either tomorrow or the next day, but I was looking for someone to calm my nerves. Could the bump just drain itself, or could it be something fatal, like a tumor of some sort? Has anyone ever seen this themselves? Is this a re-accuring thing?
casper
I dont think anyone would be able to say for sure without seeing the bump. This needs to be done by a vet to determine exactly what this bump could be. Is it filled with fluid, has it always been there? I do hope its something simple and not to serious as I can tell you are attached to this baby already. Please let us all know what happened at the vets. I hope everything will work out fine for you and your new baby. Caroline.
judygram
I have to agree with Caroline, this bump needs to be evaluated by an avian vet but I hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about, in any case please let us know what you find out. In the meantime why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and this new baby grey.

Lyric
Hi Steph, I think it's good the baby will be looked at by an avian vet. They should be able to tell what's going on with the bird and hopefully it will be nothing serious and set your mind at ease. I hope you get good news soon! Twosteph
My baby has an aviary appointment tomorrow at 4:30. The vet will then be calling me to explain whats going on. My breeder had an appointment earlier, like yesterday, but the aviary vet had an emergancy:S She told me she did not want to wait over the weekend in fear it will get any bigger, that it has been getting bigger and not smaller over the past three days. Her other friends who are breeders and have been for years tell her its either an abscess or a bug bite, either will heal itself. My mom says the abscess will just either drain, or pop and drain. That sounds a bit painful for such a young bird, now at three weeks. I'm hoping its a bug bite:unsure: On a good note, the babies are eating like horses. Well, thats all for my update now, i'll have more tomorrow after I get off work and call the vet.
judygram
Thanks for the update Steph and I am hoping it is not serious and it sounds like it isn't but at least you will find out. Eating like horses sounds good, at least they have a hearty appetite. I look forward to hearing from you with what you find out.
Twosteph
"Vet thought it is an insect bite. They lanced it--had 2 vets working on the baby--, removed some of the fluid and put the baby on Baytril and a pain/anti-inflamatory. Plus have a wash to clean the lump and a cream to put on it. Dr. O said she has had good luck with this combo in reducing the lump caused by spider bites. The baby goes back on the 19th for a recheck." Thats what my breeder says:lol: I'm so relieved. I didn't get to talk to the vet personally, like I was suppose to after their appointment. I called around 5:30ish, and they said that she was still in the waiting room. She told me she didn't even leave until 7sih. Florida people, ever heard of Dr. Lightfoot? Thats who I am going to be taking the grey to in the future when we get him/her. My mom has already spoken to her and she seems to really really like her.
