sonia has me worried....she wont whistle anymore......

when we first got her she responded when i whistled from time to time. now she wont. i know,i know. the mimics is not done on my command but it worries me that she wont do it after numerous attemps.

i may seem a bit paranoid but i dont know what else to do. i have been reading on the net about how easily the stress and i dont want that for her. we supply her with a lot of love and yet she still wont let us pet her after three weeks. she still screams when we get close and do not have a treat in our hand....brat......

i am also noticing a little twitch that she is doing. should i be worried?....

help!

Okay calm down, I think everything is going to be ok. It's easy to be paranoid over new things.

3 weeks is not that long and it might take a while to get her trust just don't give up she will come around.

The twitch, is it more like a quiver in the chest area, that is normal, nothing to be concerned about.

You got great advice from Judy and Talon. The only thing I can add is sometimes Greys stop saying or doing things just because they don't want to anymore.. You will see this when your baby starts talking. One day they will say a phrase all day long. The next day they never say it again... Go Figure..

nah i have not previously owned a bird before. sonia is an older bird that i adopted from a student of mine. i took her to a reknowned bird expert and he suggested that the bird may be about 25 years old....can u believe that? he can tell by the ring that is on her foot.....(its outdated and no longer used)

she's an older bird so she's probably set in her ways and is taking her time adjusting to a new situation. be patient and persistant and continue giveing her lots of love, be careful not to inadvertantly reinforce the screaming with treats. only give her a treat if she will let you approach her without screaming other wise she will learn that shouting gets her something nice

I wouldn't worry about her not whistling. Some birds will change what they say. For example my Macaw used to say "Bok bok bok I'm a chicken". Now he refuses to say the "I'm a chicken" part of it for ... like ... over a year now. He'll only say "Bok bok bok".

In your case, though, since she's new to you I think it's probably more about comfort level ... than plain old stubborn in my case :).

Welcome to our forum I hope you like it here!!!!

SoniaGrey, I don't think you got anything to worry about :) (I agree with all written hereabove, so I won't fall into duplicating) -

Enjoy your Sonia, that's the most important ;)
