Raiderbabe
Hey everyone! Last week Malibu pulled out one of his tail feathers and there was no blood. The breeder said he might be beginning his first molt. He is almost 8 months old. Today, I looked over at him and he had another tail feather in his mouth. When I took it, it was broken off and not completely pulled out all the way like the last one. There is still a piece stuck in him because I felt it with my hand. There is no blood. What do I do? Will he pull the rest out himself or what do I need to do. It is basically just the tip of the feather stuck in there. Thanks!
nims
Hi Raiderbabe, The same thing happened to indy. She has lost two of her tail feathers basically cos she is a klutz! Their feathers can bend when when they are in the cage or generally getting about. Indy broke it off and thatwas the end of it. This was 2months ago so there is no sign of molting
Raiderbabe
Thanks for the help! But what do I do about the little pin head piece that is still stuck in poor Malibu? I can feel it with my finger when he actually lets me touch his tail. Will he pull that out on his own or will it just fall out or do I have to do something? judygram
Just leave it, Malibu will pull it out when he gets ready to or it will fall out on its own when he molts. And quit fooling with it or he will get the idea that something is amiss, just ignore it basically.

judygram
Well just remember they pick up on our emotions so if you are nervous or are too curious about his tail he might think something is wrong.
