Tycos_mom
I took Tyco to the vet the other day and while I was there I picked up a small bag of Harrison fine pellets. My birds have always eaten Zupreen fruity maintenance but lately I've notice that Tyco and Fergie havn't been eating them so I thought I'd try the harrison I bought the fine so that all my birds could eat them from Cockateils to Macaw. and I'm very pleased that they all seem to like them except Fergie and she's always been a tough one to get her to eat any pellets anyway. Now I have a delema though. I don't now If I should just stick to the fine or by the course ones for the bigger birds. They don't seem to mind eating the fine one do you think I should just keep them all on the fine blend?
BaxtersMom
There has to be one in every bunch doesn't there Pat? Baxter is my difficult picky eater:) It's great that the others are enjoying though. I have both the fine mix and the bigger pellets. The fine is for the conure but he would just assume eat the big pieces I think. The lady at the pet store the smaller pellets were so they didn't have to work as hard to eat them for the smaller birds. I have given the smaller pellets on occassion to my larger flock members and they like it too. I do mainly give the big pellets to the larger ones though cuz they like to dip their pellets in the water and it's tougher to do with the smaller pellets. I think my big guys would miss the dipping if I gave them the smaller ones. But if they aren't "dippers" I don't see any reason not to feed them all the same stuff;)
judygram
Pat, my opinion for whats it worth is I feed Josey the Harrison's fine pellets and she eats them very well and I notice she does not waste them as I hardly ever see any of them in the bottom of the cage, nutritionally I would think they are about the same. LindaMary
That's great news, Pat! I also picked up some Harrison's when I went to the vet this week, but so far no interest from either bird. Maxi is hard core - loves the fresh food I give her but I am really not sure she has ever eaten a pellet - and I've tried several kinds. She won't even touch them dunked. I have seen Tanner eating some pellets (Zupreem), but he looks slanchwise at the Harrison's so far. Still a long way to go for me.... If I were youI'd just stick with what they all seem to like - maybe buy some coarse for Fergie and see if she's more interested. What does your vet say? Tycos_mom
My vet says nutritionly they are the same. So it doesn't really matter. Tyco Likes to dunk her pellet but I don't like her to do that because she eats all day and I end up having to change her water everytime she has a pellet or 2. For that reason alone its worth buying the fine ones that she doesn't have to dunk. I hate changeing her water 10 to 15 times a day. She seems to really enjoy them now that she's actually tried them. I started giving them to her on thursday night after seeing the vet, she didn't start eating them until this morning I took her seed dish away from her because she was digging through it and dumping all the seeds out of her dish so then because she was hungry she tryed the harrisond and has been eating them fine ever since I guess she liked them after she tasted them Fergie hasn't even tryed them yet so we will shall see if she likes them after she trys them I may have to take away all her other food for a couple hours but if she would at least try them i'm sure she would like them. BaxtersMom
My guys do eat the pellets, Tigger not as much. I wish they would eat more of their pellets. I have cut way down on the seed but I am a softie and give in to them. I try to start out the day with pellets only so they will get them first but an hour or two later I break down and toss some seeds in. I'm such a push over:(
LindaMary
I think what I'm going to do with Max is pour myself a little cup of Harrison's pellets at the dining room table, and sit there with her next to me and let her watch me eat a few of them with a great display of how yummy and good they are, while trying to keep them AWAY from her. Maybe a little reverse psychology will work....
