Anyone know of a good credible bird santuary

I know this is kind of a wierd question and I'm kind of embarrassed to ask but will anyway:whistle:

I was wondering if anyone knew of a legitimate & credible bird santuary in the US? Reason I am asking is that if I died unexpectedly, I do not have anyone I could really rely on or trust to take in my birds and feel like they would be taken care of properly. I have good part of my life insurance set up to help the Humane Society here in metro Detroit but I would like to check into a bird santuary instead and hope that I could give to a birds santuary instead, knowing that they could live their lives out in peace without ever being rehomed again. I just want to have peace of mind that if I died a santuary could profit and continue helping birds and giving my flock a wonderful home for the rest of their days too so I am looking for a long term one that won't shut down..Anyone have any ideas? I have checked the internet but havent found anything that looked that credible. I am in Michigan but think anywhere in the US would be ok. Thanks in advance.

I don't know of any in the states but I just wanter to say last year when I sold my house big house in mission where I raised my family and down sized for my retirement I too wanted to make sure my birds where going to be looked after should anything happen to me. I figure I will probubly out live my smaller birds but Tyco Fergie and now Gizmo its not likely. So I talked to my children about it and Amber will take Fergie and Tuesday will take Tyco and Gizmo. So at least I know my birds will go to my girls who they already know and love. I have put a trust fund aside for their care and any vet bills that they might have like yearly well bird check-ups a such. Isn't it funny how we worry about them even after we are gone.

Erika, I don't think this is a weird question at ALL - but a very caring and responsible one.

The two reputable sanctuaries I know of are on opposite ends of the continent from you. One is Mickaboo, in California, and the other is Foster Parrots, Ltd. on the Connecticut/Rhode Island border. Both have websites you can look at,and I believe even some additional links.

I'm right in the process of thinking about the same things myself, and also need to go through the step Pat has mentioned of actually establishing a separate fund for my fids' support, if I should get hit by a truck. Mary is planning to take them both over from me eventually, and her legal guardian (my brother) is also on board, but I still think that I should have another safety net under them as well, especially now that we have two feathered charges and Mary is only 13. I think realistically that might be a little more than my brother could handle well if I should vanish next week, you know?

This is an excellent question, and an important thing to think about.

The Mickaboo rescue in san francisco is a WONDERFUL organization, you can see them at mickaboo.com they are like a rescue broker and organice the fostering care among several well qualified families

the Lily Sanctuary in Fountain Valley is also good to their birds, but there are A LOT of birds there and I dont know if they get much 1 on 1 time. but the parrots all get a good deal of out door time when weather permits, and it almost always does here in So Cal. http://www.lilysanctuary.org/

the Cockatoo Rescue and sanctuary in the pacific northwest is amazing, but they keep the birds and do not re home them. Birds are kept in HUGE aviarys with a flock of the same species. They don't get much human contact, but have their social needs met by their flock. they take greys as well as cockatoos, but nopt every type of bird, check them out at:
