Tycos_mom
What a lovely family. When I was a little girl I always wanted a Dove. I think because of the Magician always used Doves and their acts and they always seemed so friendly and sweet I never did get one though my mom got me a bugie instead. cflanny
Very nice family you have. Whats it like to own a dove? I have a wild dove who has layed her eggs in my hanging plant right by my back door for years and she lets me come see the babys and everything. I love her but she has like 10 sets a year its kinda sad. Hers a pic of my wild doves babies

Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2008/11/15 21:

oppie
Hi, Having a Dove is nice, as Shirley's laugh is funny. She isn't mimicing, but the hens' sound sounds like a laugh  The males make a real soothing koooing sound. As far as I know, Doves don't bite. Shirley isn't big on being held, one of her favorite spots is on the celling fan (it's always off)! In fact, she'll fly around the room and land on the fan so it spins!! When Lindsay was introduced, he was nippy toward the other FIDs, but he's okay with them now. Shirley LOVES him!!! She has to go wherever he (or she) is! Shirley is also friends with Jim Jim. Twinkle and Jim Jim are mating, that will be a new adventure, as I've never bred birds! Ralph
judygram
Twinkle and Jim Jim are mating, well well well how about that, then maybe you better take a crash course in breeding tiels but congrats if they succeed in laying fertile eggs. Tycos_mom
Thats nice that you've decided to let your Teils have a clutch. I would love to see the babies. you should see if you can get a few lessons in handfeeding the babies just in case the parent reject them or hurt the babie sometime not often the parent birds can mutalate the babies like biting noff toe and such if that happens you will have to pull the babies and hand feed them its not that hard to learn to hand feed but you should see if someone can show you how like your vet or a breeder or even a petstore that takes in unweaned babies. also read as much as you can about it before the babies come. I had a baby teil dropped on my door step when it was 3 weeks old. I hand fed it and weaned it. I didn't know anything but I learned rather quickly/ its not difficult but you have to make sure the formula is thhe right tempature and how to hold the baby so it will take the food. See if you can find a bird breeder to give you a few lessons.
