Hello,

I have two tiels, a male and female in separate cages. I've had them a long time and the female is around 11 years old. They have bonded and mated. When Twinkle lays eggs, she'll sit on them until she gets tired of them. If we just continue to let them out at the same time, will Twinkle learn how to care for the eggs, or not? We do not want chicks, but you can tell they want to be together.

Thanks,

If the birds are in separate cages then she probubly will never look after the eggs properly Usually the male and Female work together while the hen incubates the egg her mate will feed her or will sit on the eggs while she gets something to eat. She can't do this if her mate is not with her 24/7 If you want her to take care of her eggs put them in the same cage and give them a nest box other wise she will probubly never bring the eggs to term.

Ralph, I agree with Pat let the two tiels be together in one cage with a nesting box so they can both take care of the eggs. Poor Twinkle misses the male. What's his name? She can't sit on the eggs all the time and she gets hungry too and needs company. Let the wedding bells ring!!! Hey they could buy their own food with the profits from baby tiels, if you can bring yourself to sell them!!;)

Hey guys,

We don't know anything about raising babies. Spencer is really the last bird that we have room for. If we could sell them, that would be fine, but I'm worried that we wouldn't be able to. Don't they need to be hand fed to get any kind of money? Becoming a breeder is an awful big step.

The male's name is Jim Jim.

Teils rame down really easily and can be parent raise as long as you handle them from a very young age the will become quite tame hand feeding Teils is not nessesary but handleing them is you must spend time loving on the babyies and cuddling them allot and they will become quite tame and people friendly. just like Budgies.

Hi, Pat,

Thanks for the info. Just out curiosity, at what age do you start handling them.

If you have decided that you are going to breed them. you should get a nest box for them when they have eggs make sure you feed them lot of soft nutritios foods like rice and bean mash cooked mashed sweet potatos egggs stuuf hat is easy for daddy bird to regurgatate and feed his wife while she is sitting on the eggs and then after the babys hatch the same foods should also be fed so they can feed their growing babes also make sure there is always cuddle bone and mineral block available for them when you make scrambled eggs grind up the shells and include the shels with the eggs they are a good sorce of calcium for them.
