free
Hi...I have a 5 month old female timneh (I think that still qualifies as a baby!) and am wondering what it means when she holds my finger in her mouth and bobs her head up and down...I have heard that this is a sign that she is bonded with me, is this true? Also, how do I respond to it?
judygram
You don't know much about greys do you but you came to the right place for info. Yes indeed, 5 months still qualifies as a baby and she is doing the handfeeding bit with your finger in her beak and bobbing her head. They are usually fed with a syringe and they bob their heads up and down when eating. I would ignore this behavior. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and this Tag like have you named her?
casper
Yes Judy is right about the hand feeding. My 5 month old also does this. Just ignore this behaviour and hopefully as she gets older this should stop. Is your baby fully weaned and feeding independently? Does she eat enough and have a varied diet? How long have you had your grey? Do you have any more birds? I look forward to hearing more about you and your grey, dont forget to post some pictures if you have any, we love to see baby photos. Luvparrots
Hi Free, congratulations on your baby Tag. How long has she been a part of your family and what have you named her? We love hearing tales about our greys and if you have any pictures you would like to share, we are a ready audience. Welcome to the family. cflanny
ZZero has been fully weaned for over a month and wont take a spoon if I tried. he still does this in the morning before breakfast or at dinner. Personally I let him do it I feel its his way of saying its hot meal time:) and I think its too cute:) Should I not??<br><br>Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2008/11/08 21:
she
Yes it is a feeding response. My grey is 5 years old and I was shocked when he started doing this the other day. It is best to ignore providing the bird is fully weaned
free
Hi..my baby timneh's name is frankie...I have had her since she was 5 weeks old! I did hand feed her for the first few weeks as she had to take some meds for a yeast infection and some bacteria...she was abundantly weaned when I got her, but reverted back to 1 or 2 handfeedings for several weeks. She is now fully weaned and eats nutriberries, lots of fresh veg and fruit, grains, nuts an some seeds. I figured that the head bobbing had to do with her wanting to be hand fed...I wasn't sure though becasue I also have a hahn's mini macaw named mel who is 2 years old and presented this behavior just before I got Frankie...she did it while I was "preening" her. I have never been to a forum before and I am having a really hard time understanding how to move around in this thing...someone said I should go to new members and introduce myself, so I will do that and hopefully be able to figure out how to post some pictures of my birds!!
