Dave27563
Hi all. Can anyone tell me how i can get Charlie to stay on her perch? She will do it for my partner when she lets her out, but as soon as she sees me she flies straight to me. When i get her out i put her on her perch on her cage but she flies to me. Even if i can get her to stay there for a while as soon as i go to leave the room she flies straight to me. I don't want to stop her flying to me when i call her but i do want her to be happy to stay on her perch. Any suggestions would be appreciated Dave and Charlie {Feel-good-00020114}
Guest Monique
What do you usually do today after she flies to you? I would say just keep putting her back over and over and over until you cannot stand it any more and then a few more times and then when you really cannot take it any more she's going to have to go into her cage. This is the only way she will learn. Keep in mind you can put her in her cage wait 15 minutes and then take her out and let her be with you one-on-one and that will be fine. Just don't let her do that right after flying to her or you will be rewarding her for flying to you without you having asked her to. Also when you put her back to the perch I would do it very no nonsense. No kisses, head scratches or sweet words on the way.
CeasarsDad
This is gonna be a toughie.. I am not sure you can Train a Grey to "stay" Are you sure you want her to have free flight? I know you understand the dangers found in a common home so I won't go into it here.. I have found that all the birds I have had did really well clipped. You turn a flyer into a climber.. Remember, parrots also love to climb..
Guest Monique
All of our birds (3 of them) all stay on their play stand until we go to get them. On the very rare occasion they will flutter off because they lose their footing playing with something but they do not fly away to other spots when they're on their play stand.
