Most Cuddley Bird

Quickdood

Recommended Posts

Hello,

One day I would like to get another bird in addition to my CAG Lily. I am enjoying Lily so much I have to restrain myself from getting another bird until I get a larger place. The most important factor I am considering for my next bird is that it must be very cuddley. I am starting my research now so maybe I can get another bird in a year or two. Does anyone know of any birds that fit the following description: not much bigger than an African Grey preferably smaller, not too loud, and most importantly very cuddley.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg I don't know about loud but the cockatoos are some of the most cuddley of the parrots, they don't call them velcro birds for nothing. Some of them get quite large but some of them are about the same size as a grey or slightly larger.

I am sure there are other parrots that could classify as cuddley and some of the other members will chime in with their ideas and suggestions.

How about a Amazon or a mini macaw My Amazon is very sweet and cuddly. she is so much fun to have around. and Tyco my Grey and her have actually become friends. I can do anything with Fergie she will roll over on her back and play with her food toys. she comes over for a cuddle at least 3 times a day. She is a Yellow crowned Amazon shes a wonderful bird

I got a male eclectus after I got my grey. I was so surprised at what a super love bug he is. He was 5 years old when I got him so he wasn't a baby but he will just crawl up on my chest, under my chin or on my stomach, lay down and just look up at me with the cutest little eyes. He loves to sit on my shoulder (I know thats not for everyone) and he will preen my hair. He just wants to be close all the time.

I have read that eclectus are one of the quiet parrots you can have but must admit he is our loudest bird but I think that is because he came from a breeder. He was not a breeder bird but the mans personal pet but did hear all the noises of the other birds. I think his noise factor is where he is from but he still isn't that bad.

I also read eclectus "have been misunderstood" and people tend to think they are "slow, boring, dumb, not as exciting" etc but that is totally not true. Mine does not move as fast (cuz he don't want to because he can;) ) and he is not as curious as a grey. He isn't always looking into other rooms or the tops of the curtains when I have him like my grey does:blink: And he stays put when he is with me. When I have him out with me, he just wants to be close to me and stay there:)

He is such a good talker and has many words and phrases. He came with a pretty big vocabulary and his best phrase or 2 phrases are "They call him Tigger, Tigger, King of the Jun-Guuuullll" and he has learned more words from us since we've had him. Eclectus also talk in a high pitched voice that I think is so cute.

I wasn't expecting to fall in love with him as fast as I did, especially after reading up on the eclectus but must admit he has impressed so much more than I could have ever imagined.

Books also said that the male is more friendly or easy going. The females tend to be more hormonal and more "nippy" than a male.

I don't know if all eclectus's are snuggle bugs or super cuddly but my Tigger is. I can hug him back and rock him like a baby and he just stays there and loves the attention. I think the eclectus is a great cuddly bird. Might want to do some research on them because this was just my experience with the one I have. He is also a clown too and has quite the personality. Hope that helps. Sorry if it was too long.:silly: :side:

I think I figured out what my next bird will be! I am looking at getting a Galah (Rose Breasted Cockatoo). So far I like what I have read about them and they seem like cuddley birds. The only problem is they cost a lot of money, the parrot store near me wants $2,400 for one, so I guess I will be saving up for a while. Does anyone know if that is a fair price?

Also anyone here familiar with that type of bird or have one? Any info one could give would be appreciated. Also anyone know if they generally get a long well with Greys.
