Tycos_mom
Well she emailed me a couple of pictures of Gizmo. She said he molting and is not in the best of feather right now. I think by the looks of him he will be going in for a vet check imediatly just to rule any thing major out. Like I said this is a rescue situation so please don't judge him to harshly. We will have him looking gorgous in no time.

Tycos_mom
Well least we have some good before picture I'm sure in a couple months you won't think its even the same bird. she said he's molting but I'm just wondering if he might be plucking some. My friend took him to her house after I said I would take him she has way to many birds shes a breeder of small birds and she doesn't have any big birds at all. She's a little bit afraid of their beaks. She said he's been sitting on top of his cage ever since she brout him home. apperently he freaks out and shakes the cage and screams when you try putting him in his cage. he does not want to be locked in ever again. I can see I'm going to have to go real slow with this guy. She said if he falls of his cage he will let you pick him up and put him back. She said he takes food from your hand but lunges and grabs with great intencity like he's going to take your hand with it. she said he tapped her hand the first couple time she offered him a treat then kind of settled a little bit. She says shes not even going to try putting him back in his cage. she said he can sit there until its time to bring him to your house. Poor Gizmo it sounds like he's had quite the bad experiance. and he certinly didn't like the fact he was locked up for so long.
judygram
Well who could blame the poor thing, being locked up like that for so long I wouldn't want to be caged ever again either but I am sure you will be able to work wonders with him, like you said time and patience but this will be a long road but I have faith that you will accomplish a lot with him. Karma for you dear.

she
I think he is gorgious. Not as bad as I was expecting. I was expecting him to be cage bound after being caged for so long.He will soon learn that being put in his cage does not mean he is staying their. He really is a beauty. Tycos_mom
I thought I might try a few of Ken Globus Tecniquics and see how he responds to that'I would like to see if he is just bluffing when he lunges or if he really wants to bite and not be around people at all. I have a feeling hes just a big suck under all that noise and making himself look as big and mean as possible. We shall see. I think he's beautiful I love the colours of their feathers when thet are healthy they are a beautiful Emerald colour and with the reds and blues the are just gorious birds. I may just have to go pick him up The waiting is going to seem like forever. Ill have to figure out what it would cost to pick him up the lady wants $700. for him and that includes delivery. Thats not to bad concidering I've looked at a few breeders lists here in Canada and they want 1600. for them. The cheapest one I saw was 1200 and I would have to pay the shipping cost so it would still be 1400. I wonder if she would take a couple hundred off the price if I was to drive up and get him. Its going to be a very long 2 weeks and 2 day's if I don't go get him. November 8th seems like such a long ways away.
BaxtersMom
I don't think he looks bad at all. Infact, I think he's gorgeous. I have a feeling with your love and care he will be 100% in no time at all. I don't think I could wait the 2 weeks myself. I think he's beautiful. Tycos_mom
I emailed my friend and asked her if it would be possible to come and pick him up on Sunday I'm waiting to here back from her. I punch her address into my Gps and its only 627 km which is about 400 miles or so. I figure about a five or 6 hour drive not to bad and If I do it on sunday My daughter Tuesday will be home for my birds. I'll be tired driving 12 hours straight but I can sleep when I get home. if I leave at 9am I be back by 10pm thats not bad I'll just eat at drive throughs. Do you think it will stress Gizmo out allot a 6 hr drive is allot for any bird.

Tycos_mom
I'm so excited my friend just called me apparently her brother is coming half way to Vancouver on Monday so if I wan I can meet with up with him and bring Gizmo home then. where I meet him is only 250km away so that only about a 2 1/2 hour drive thats only about a 175 miles not bad we will be home in time for dinner almost :woohoo: I better get busy i have so much todo before then Scrub and disinfect his cage find a place to Quarintine him go shopping for more toys. oh my gosh I'm so not ready for this. I'm just so excited I can hardly contain myself. oh yea I have to make a Vet appointment also. Do you think I should let him settle in a bit before I take him to the vet. I'm sure the 6 hour drive is going to be quite stressful for him and if he just gets here and then has to go to the vet the very next day it might be to much for him what do you think he's been moved around quite a bit latley mabie I should give him a week or so and then take him to the vet. He will be Quarintined anyway so its not like my other birds are going to catch anything if he has anything. My Friend said she did take him to the vet before she brought him to her house because she is a breeder and didn't want to take any chances with her flock. She said the vet said he was in reasonable health he just mostley stressed and need some good nutrition and TlC That was a week ago. So what do you think should I hold off on the Vet for a week or so or take him in right away?

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/26 17:
she
I am so excited for you.Its Sunday evening hear so I guess you are besides yourself.I think it is fantastic you dont have to wait any longer. As far as the vet is concerned I always think sooner the better, but he has seen a vet, so if you can quarantine him properley, you could leave it a week or so.I always feel quarantine is very hard in the same house as some illneses are air born so if birds are in the same air space it is useless.I realise you can tell very little from photos bit Gizmo did not look bad at all. My advice is get him home and see how settled he is and then decide how fast to see a vet. Sheila

judygram
So you are getting Gizmo on Monday, I can't wait and I know you can't either Pat, have a good night's sleep and we will wait to hear from you tomorrow night, hope all is well.
Tycos_mom
who's sleeping not me can't wait until tomorrow. I've been trying to keep busy for two days. I sanitized his cage and the travel cage. Went shopping for new toys, cut new branches for perches cleaned those, made anew swing for him and hung that and a nice thick 6ft length knotted cotton rope from the ceiling besdehis cage. Filled a big wicker basket with foot toys and put that on his play top.and still time is not going fast enough for me. Now aparently I won't be able to pick him up in Cashe creek her brother has changed his plans and now he's goingto meet me in hope tomorrow sometime which is way closer for me but I still have no idea when he's going to be there he going to phone me tomorrow sometime before 2pm and give me his ETA so tomorrow I'm going to be on pins and needles all day waiting for the phone to ring. Time is going to go so slow tomorrow.
BaxtersMom
This is so exciting. I can't wait either. I will keep checking in untill Gizmo is home. I know it will still take awhile but I'll be watching the forum anxiously awaiting his homecoming:) .
Tycos_mom
Baxters mom it probubly won't be for about another 6 hours or more. I was going to pick hip up in cashe creek but now I have to wait until he gets to Hope because he is going there. which is closer for me but a 6 hour drive from Prince George which is where he's coming from. he left there 1 hour ago so its going to be at least that long they have a couple stops along the way apparently. I so wish I was still picking him up in Cashe Creek becaus then I wouldn't have this agonizing wait for him to call with the ETA. Its makeing me crazy and time is draging on.
