Sallas
I have an update for you all. As many of you know, when Saphira was a baby, she had splay leg and the vet put braces on her legs. when he did that he had messed up one of her back toes (the first digit was bent tight to the rest of her toe) this caused her toenail to grow right into her toe. We had to clip her nail so often and it was a very traumatic experience for Saphira. We contacted her breeder and her breeder had us send her via Delta back to her to take to her avian specialist. The vet was able to remove her toe nail in a way that it will never grow back. While at the breeders recovering Saphira was able to meet Thorn (the male TAG that we had on reserve at the breeders) the first day Saphira tried to bite Thorn (but that day was very traumatic for her as we were not there and she had the flight and all. the next day was the day the vet removed her toe nail so the breeder did not even attempt to put them together. On Saturday she put them together and Saphira started to feed Thorn, then Thorn in turn fed Saphira. The breeder said since then they have been inseparable. Both of my babies should be coming home early next week. I have a new cage all ready for them (I did not want to put them in Saphira's cage as she may be territorial of at and it may be to small for two birds). When they get home I will take some pictures of the new baby (Thorn) and then some pictures of them both in their new home.

BaxtersMom
Thanks for the update. Sounds like everything is working out just fine for both of them and great news that they have taken to each other in such a close way. Can't wait to see the new pics when they come home. Lyric
I'm glad you got the problems with Saphira's toenail resolved by an avian specialist. It's great that her and her new playmate are getting on so well together. I bet you can't wait to get both birds back with you!

Sallas
We got them lastnight. Thorn is awsome. They were stressed from the trip so I did not take any pictures last night. I will take some tonight though. And yes, i had gotten the third book the day it came out. Now I cannot wait for the last book. I was naming the birds by the name of the Dragons. Obviously I did not want to use Glaedr (if you read the third book) and Shruikan (the kings dragon) did not make sense. I can only guess that Saphira will end up with either Thorn or the male in the unhatched egg (I wonder if the egg will hatch for Roran?).
Anmlhggr
for Roran, I didn't even think of that, what a nice twist. I doubt she'll end up with thorn, and now he doesn't have a tail! I felt so bad for Gleadr.. You know, I am getting another Grey on Saturday and I was strapped for names....maybe I'll name him Gleadr...

Post edited by: Anmlhggr, at: 2008/10/22 21:
Sallas
Yeah Roran kinda goes along with the whole inheritance theme too. I did not want to go with "Shruikan" because I think the poor little bird would have a hard time saying that name. Before book three came out i was really thinking I was going to name him Gleadr, i kinda like the name. But then in book 3, well you know what happens.... Sallas
Oh I forgot to tell everyone how good her toe looks now :cheer: I think after some more of the pain goes away, she will be much more comfortable.
