Keep Grey in Cage???

Can anyone tell me if they have made an area parrot-proof(like baby proof) for their grey. I have him in his cage while I am at work for at least 6 hours a day...I don't want him to start feather plucking...I want to leave him out of the cage..or is this not recommended? How long is too long in the cage?

Thanks

I think your Grey will be fine for 6 hours.

But if you have the money and the space, it is possible. What you are basically doing is making him a bigger "cage". Think wall to wall tile, no electrical accessible, or lightbulbs or light fixtures. No wood accessible for trim. Everything structural has to be 100% washable with water and bird proof.

We've lost a chunk out of a chair when we first brought our Macaw home ... and a piece of a picture frame. This was both under supervision because the playstand was too close to something it should not have been and he could reach. It didn't happen with our Grey but that's just because the way the playstand is built the base was longer than her body so there's no way for her to stretch off and chomp something. It doesn't take but one second and yes they will do it. It's just another toy to them :).

Yes your grey is fine for 6 hours alone in cage.I am owned by 18 FIDS 3 are greys. All our birds are caged except for 2 one is a CAG and the other one is a Yellow Nape Amazon. They are in different parts of our house which are bird safe areas(no wires or anything hazardous)I hope everything works out for you.
