nims Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Hi, I have now decided to move to manchester with my husband and thought now is a good time as any to get a new bird. Indy seems to be really taken with my husband and I would like a companion. She is happy with me but will chose dave over me any day! So I have decided to get me another feathered friend. I am looking at Timnehs and cockatoos at the mo and am open to suggestions. Any advice welcome! Thanks Nims
lovemyGreys Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 There is no guarantee whatever species of bird you get that it will be your companion in afraid,it just dosent work like that .Cockatoos are very demanding birds & the main one that is always coming into rescue centers for re-homing, so please read up as much as you can on them.Timnehs are great little birds, mant members here own them.Im sure others will offer you their advice.
nims Posted October 4, 2008 Author Posted October 4, 2008 I am leaning towards a TAG however there are not many that are available.
lovemyGreys Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Heres one link i know of,have a glance through there Do a google search for UK parrot or TAG breeders.
Suzzique Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Nims Lovemygreys is right do lots of resurch on too's. They are the main bird that you will find in rescues. Most will go threw 2 to 4 owners by the time they are 1 year old. It is really sad. They are very needy and very loud. Yes our greys can get loud but they have nothing on a too. I don't want to discurage you on a too. They can be great companions but you need to know what your getting into.
nims Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 Yes I have seen many toos up for sale as their owners are unable for find the time for them. Soooooooooo after much consideration I have decided not to get a too but am thinking of a timneh or an amazon. Will keep you posted! Nims
LindaMary Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I'm going to put in my vote here for a TAG, partly because I love mine so much, and partly because some things I've read lead me to believe that two greys might feel more comfortable with each other than a grey with another species. But that's just reading, mind you! Mainly I just love my easy-going little birdie {Love-000200C2} TAGs are well worth the effort to find them, I think.
Tycos_mom Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I don't have a Tag yet But I do have an Amazon and a Congo they are friend and I couldn't love either of them more. They are different in personality but both very special to me. My Amazon loves to cuddle and is so sweet she would rather play with me than her toys but thats no saying she can't occupy herself because she can. but when is one on one time she will willing give up anything she's doing to come and be with me. Tyco is more a talk to me and watch me I'll entertain you kind of bird she wonderful also but shes not so hand on as Fergie. I hope this helps.
nims Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 Hi, OK so its been awhile and I have done a lot of research and once I have settled in to my new job I will be looking for an amazon!!! I have been looking around and there arent many available here in the UK. If anyone knows a good breeder here in the UK please PM me. Thanks Nim
Poppy Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 try here nims I have found them really helpful and they know there stuff Hope you find what you want http://www.parrotcare.com
BaxtersMom Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Congradulations on your decision to get a new companion. I think Amazons are amazing and my husband was even really taken with them too. I think an amazon is going to be our next bird, too:) Please let us know the moment you find one, what it's name will be all the good stuff. I'm exctied for you!!!
nims Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 Hi, So as stated in the rescue room I have bought another CAG. His name is Ice and he is a 4yr male. He will be coming home with me next saturday and Im very excited! Thanks for all your support and advice. Nims
judygram Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I will be looking forward to seeing some pictures next weekend of Ice and congrats again on being able to take him in and give him a good forever home.
she Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 congratulations on the new member of your family.I look forward to hearing more when he comes home.
Luvparrots Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Hi Nims, how exciting that Indy now has a new friend; and what a great thing you have done to give Ice a new home. Can't wait to see some pictures of your two FIDs together, when they become accustomed to each other that is.:cheer: :silly:
nims Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 Yes Im really excited! I think Indy will enjoy Ice's comapany and vice versa! He is very handsome I must though Im very biased! This will be Ice's 3 and final home so I know he will take some time to get comfortable. Will keep everyone updated on the progress! Nims
NLJohnso Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Congratulations on your new addition! Very exciting! Im currently in the same place.. I would like to get another bird as a companion for Zazu, and possibly me. Zazu favors my boyfriend, however I realize there is no guarantee that the next one wont either! Im thinking of another timneh, but they are in rare form.. B)
Lanibird Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Hello! When I saw your post about possibly getting a Cockatoo I thought I should share my experience with you. I have always wanted a Moluccan Cockatoo and about 4 years ago, we purchased a gorgeous young male named Rocky. Be sure you and your husband can tolerate noise, and I mean SERIOUS noise the kind that hurts your ears. Our Rocky only screams while joyfully swinging upside down on his playstand or in his cage. The level of noise really bothers my husband and hurts his ears, although he loves Rocky as much as I do. Make sure you are up for the noise, that is a big issue with Toos! Otherwise, I do adore my Too as much as my CAG!!! If I could do it again I would probably have gotten a second CAG. Hope this is helpfull!
SchroedersJen Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I know of a few rescue groups that make potential too rescuers ckeck out http://mytoos.com/ they're a whole lotta bird.
Lanibird Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Hey SchroedersJen, I read your post and wanted to say thank you for mentioning the mytoos site. It is good to see an honest description of life with a cockatoo. I checked it out and registered. My big boy "Rocky";) is 5 now, still fully feathered and happy. We have a daily routine and aside from greeting the day with alot of "enthusiasm" and also saluting the setting sun with equal amounts of "enthusiasm" we have a happy bird-house! They do take alot of time and patience, but a good dose of understanding too. They were born with those voices for a reason, and people do need to be honest about their own tolerance for noise!! :-) Janine (Lanibird)
