djzenjen
My Mischief is a seed lover. I've been slowly reducing the amount of seeds she gets and mixing in veggies, fruits, and color pellets. She won't touch the color pellets, but during a routine visit to the vet, they suggested to try the non-colored pellets. So, I zipped over to the bird store and bought a brand that the vet recommended. I mixed in some pellets with a small amount of seeds (about 5-10%), and checked the bowl in the morning. All the seeds had been cracked, but I didn't see any indication that the pellets had been messed with. There were only a few on the bottom of her house. For the record I have no problem getting her to eat fruit, and she loves spaghetti. I was going to try and mix in some pellets with her fruit bowl next time and see how that goes. I am looking for tips to help her get off her huge seed kick and start to eat the pellets with more of the nutrients that she needs. Thanks for reading! siobha9
There are lots of threads here with ideas on how to convert a seed junkie. Just do a search in the bird food room for seed and you will find lots! If she is eating fruit, veg and pasta etc she will be getting some nutrients there too;)
lovemyGreys
Try presenting the pellets in a different way.You can grind them up a little & mix them in with perhaps a little scrambled egg,or really grind them to a fine consistency & sprinkle over the veggies or whatever foods your grey loves ,be cunning
djzenjen
Oooohhhh, I love that idea lovemyGreys! I will try that today with her egg breakfast. I'll also search through the posts on here to see what other goodies I can come up with. Thanks!
Tycos_mom
I have the same problem with Tyco. She has a habit of waking up around 5am hungry I don't get them up until 8am so what I do is at bedtime I take all the food out of her cage and leave nothing except her pellets and water and I hear her munching on pellets every morning at 5 am then she goes back to sleep until 8am least this way I know she's eating some of them along with the rest of her food
