Ajilon
So if any of you have been reading, I posted in the welcome section. I'm a brand new mommy of a 4 month baby CAG. I've spent months researching and exposing myself to the breed before placing my deposit with the breeder. He's a DOLL! I just love him to pieces. I can't wait for him to learn to talk back to me. Anyway... As I stated, he's joining a very established flock and I've been slowly integrating him in. So far. all my other birds have readily accepted him and chatter to him often. This is Joey. She's my 7 y/o B&G macaw. She's a one person bird and I'm the only one she really likes. Well... except for breeding season. She doesn't like anyone then. Next we have Rico. He's 12 y/o and truly belongs to my husband. He doesn't care for me much but that's ok. He liked me just fine until he saw us sleeping in the same bed. From that point on, I was evil. He's slowly starting to come around. I just don't push it. I can at least give him a treat without him taking my hand off! Here's a video of Rico. Can you tell he's spoiled? http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbjE9zmjPck This is Ty. Ty isn't technically our baby. He's a rescue that I took in because he needed a good home. My plan is to rehabilitate him and then find him his forever home. I'm trying hard not to get attached before this happens though. He's a good boy, only 2 years old and VERY active. He was plucking clean down tot he flesh, but we're growing back out more and more every day. He hasn't plucked one feather since he's been with me. YAY! And then we have Cabo. Don't ever tell Cabo he's a bird. It would break his heart. He thinks he's human and probably my biggest talker. you can't NOT greet Cabo when you walk into the room. He immediately looks at you and says "Hi Cabo!" He'll be 2 in June and already has a great vocabulary. I work with him 10 minutes twice a day on his training and talking. He's such a lovable baby. And then last is Zazu. Zazu is what bought me here to begin with. So that's it. That's my flock. I know 5 seems like alot (and it is!) good thing I work from home. Sometimes it's hard to get anything done with parrots all around, but a schedule and routine helps. The big boys aren't as hands on needy as Cabo and Zazu. Ajilon
The amazon and the grey snipe more of my attention than the macaws do. They're content just being out on their playstands and hanging out where they can see everything. The amazon and the AG are more hold me, touch me, play with me birds. We have a routine and that makes it easier. I get up and get their breakfast ready. After they eat, I put them on their playstands and clean their cages. At the end of the day, they'll go back to their cages for dinner and I clean their playstands. I have 3 roomba vacuums that run while we sleep and that handles most of the mess from seed and pellet. They get cooked foods twice a day, but typically I only cook for them once a week and freeze everything I make for later. In doing this, I can store up meals and have them ready in minutes. I have about 3 months of meals for the birds in my deep freeze.
